I was absolutely delighted to see this comment by GeeGee - it sort of jumped off the Chronicles back page. Absolutely fantastic news for Barnsley fans. He was talking about the wholesale of players at the end of a season - followed by the recruitment the following season of nearly a full new team. A ridiculous way to run any football club - let alone a 1st Division or Championship side. The last ten seasons for Barnsley has been a disaster. Patrick Cryne should have sold the club 3 years after buying it - like he always said he was going to. Many supporters have just drifted away during that time. Only plus side is that at least our football competitors in Leeds and Sheffield have also been poor over the last decade - so we haven’t leeched many supporters to those clubs over that period. Even the great scenes following the 2016 playoff final was followed by an inability to produce proper player contracts that resulted in the January 2017 debacle. Thank goodness those days are gone. Exciting times ahead.
gerroff 10 years!!, And you do know you can't just take a football club to the nearest car boot sale and flog it?
PC tried to sell it from the moment he bought it, subject to two things. A) Getting his money back: and b) finding the right people to buy the club.
The last ten years has had its ups & downs but it cannot be described as a disaster , You have said before that many have drifted away in the last ten years which if you go on attendances is simply not true , the gates have held up well & the player contracts situation has improved significantly . Talking of january , that is when you made your public statement to withdraw from watching Barnsley so I take it that you being a man of your word you have not attended since , however , you did say you would review it this summer , so have you decided to return to the fold or are you going to continue to be an armchair keyboard activist ?
Average attendance 2008 - 11,425 Average attendance 2018 - 13,704 Average in PC's 1st season in charge - 9,758 You're on fire. As per obvs.
What you are saying here is that you don’t know anyone that has stopped going or only occasionally goes to matches now??? I can’t see anyone reading this that doesn’t know what I’m describing.
So you're trying to use your own spurious anecdotal evidence to beat the real figures. (Slow hand clap)
Yes, and I also know quite a few who now go regularly or are new supporters. You're trying to make it look like support is dwindling to back up your dismantling of Patrick Cryne's tenure. The tide went out last night. Did it come back in again ?
There will always be a turnover of fans , people move away , finances can change , people pass away , there are many reasons why people stop attending but by the same token , new faces come through the turnstiles but the only yardstick what can be used is attendances , just because you had a flounce & stopped going does not mean that everyone else has followed suit & at the end of the day , you are wrong , attendances have not deteriorated in the last ten years .
Attendances are only way to measure as said, but you could argue Season tickets are the real measure. Don’t have clue if up or down but figures above suggest will be up too.
But shouldn’t those fans getting old enough to attend etc ADD to those supporters already there ??? I’ve known quite a number of supporters - some used to actually post on here regularly- that just stopped going to games because there was NO PROGRESS It would have been accepted if there were 3 steps forward followed by 2 steps back. ........ but for the last 10 years or so it’s been 3 steps forward followed by 3 steps back. As I’ve said before - we will be forever grateful to Patrick Cryne for saving the club - but during his tenure the club became stale - neither going backwards, forwards or sideways. Nothing has been built either on the field or off the field in the last 10 years or more.
What even is that first paragraph. Northern has proved your numbers wrong, so it’s time to suck it up you elongated pillock.
Yes Ganaye is talking about the consequences of it in THIS WEEKS Chronicle. That is to say - it is a current topic of discussion.
Genuine question Nudger , are you still withdrawing your support or will you be returning next season ?
