The strength and potency of Cannabis is a key point. It seems obvious that it is significantly more potent that the old Moroccan Black that was used when I was young. Having said that would the potency be controlled by the government if legalised? If the strength was regulated then would the black market in super strength cannabis still flourish? I don't know.
Im guessing it may reduce the potency somewhat and hopefully the younger demographic would stick to the govt. sanctioned weed, but my gut tells me the heavier users would seek out the potent variety. I'd imagine it'd be like drinking a 2% lager after decades on special brew. The other argument that needs to be considered is the harm caused by alcohol - not just on physical and mental health but also the drain on public resources and damage to families. If alcohol is legal, how can we justify prohibiting other drugs which are proven to be less harmful?
Portugal’s drug policy seems both mature and to be working. https://www.theguardian.com/news/20...nt-the-world-copied-it?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2050324516683640
Interesting. I only scan read the journal but it seems they decriminalised it rather than legalising. Perhaps there is a solid argument to follow the Portuguese template.
So you’re saying ban alcohol as well? I don’t know the answers to this, as no one on here does either. However my concerns of legalising any that are currently illegal is that kids may see it as a thumbs up from the Govt. Currently because of the number of their friends/family taking drugs, many kids do not see the dangers, just the “fun”. And an ok from the Govt will further advocate this, even if age limits are in place. I guess nobody on here would be happy if any of their kids were smoking weed, or taking Ket down their local park... but it is happening in parks all over the borough. The spice heads in town are the tip of the next iceberg!
Because they won’t legalise cannabis ? Good fooking job too ! What next legalise murder because the police can’t cope with it too . Drugs in general are the root cause of most of societies ills and cause heartache and misery . Drug dealers should be shot ! And don’t give me the old pony about alcohol blah blah !
"Evidence does suggest" As a nurse of long standing experience working in inpatient mental health services i can assure all that the highest % of patients with drug induced psychosis i have seen are cannabis users. People who only use a cannabis derivative for medical purposes however is a different matter altogether.
A most commendable contribution to the debate. Booze is enough for our society. We need not go any further. Recreationally speaking.
The problem with cannabis is that the general public see this as a 'soft' drug because they don't see what can happen to people, from all backgrounds, because they don't work on mental health wards. If i could video some poor wretched soul in the throes of psychosis they would be shocked to the core. This episode can last for weeks as you will know.
I used to care coordinate a few on depots that continued to smoke to dull the voices... they didnt see it as the potential root cause.
Can I just ask. The evidence you refer to. Is this conclusive (in the sense of the evidence you have come across) if it had any relation to the removal/inclusion of THC element on both sides? I do have a reason for asking but not jumping into debate without understanding that part of that evidence.
We test every patient as soon as possible after admission. Some of course refuse to give a sample, some are too ill to do so. Some will volunteer what drugs they have or have not been using. Many happily provide a sample. We deal with the consequenes and nurse the psychological and phsical being thereafter. THC is on the drug-screen.
Ok. Where I was coming from. I have crohns. And im reading more and more research suggesting that cannabis oil is more effective than the prescription drugs issued. Moreso that this is available without THC with the same result. I'm more concerned that the drugs I am on are more for people who have had transplants. That the immune system is lowered that much you are then open to all sorts. So I'm also seeing that THC is the psychosis candidate. Basically if I ever get to the place whereby prescription drugs stop working or cause too much grief in other areas it would be a serious consideration for me. But obviously didn't want to become another psychosis statistic. Not doing bad at the moment but that can change in an instant. Was just trying to understand anything what was from real life situations/experience. Cheers anyway.
I have never seen anyone professionally who has become ill through using medicinal cannabis, only recreational 'weed' smokers. I know quite a few people who have/are using cannabis oil and none up to now appear to have suffered any adverse reactions. If it doesn't have THC then i can't see a problem
Cheers. It falls in line with my own thoughts and what I've read so far. Hopefully more official research can be done to look into it.
Excellent. A wonderfully concise and intelligent appraisal. Have you thought of a career in politics?
