Maquire was man a match. He made second goal and started to come forward later on, that's what he does best. Put rose in front of him, awesome. Lingard out loftus in...rash in and give sterling a brush to sweep stands out.

    Southgate as manager.
I said Warnock as assistant - to give the players that nasty edge that they unfortunately need in these competitions - eg how to win penalties and how to stand 2m away from an opponent talking a free kick to try and frustrate them.
Tactics that Tunisia used and England didn’t know how to respond to.
As in Barnsley v Cardiff last season.

Would you really want to see England play like Cardiff or any Warnock side? Out of interest how many of Warnock's teams have won games on penalties compared to how many have had games abandoned because they went down to six men? Playing for penalties would be a bit silly in the group stage anyway. What we're lacking is a group of experienced world-class players. We have Jordan Henderson in midfield. 12 years ago we had Lampard, Gerrard and Beckham. We will always struggle to beat teams without experienced world-class players regardless of tactics.

Maguire was poor in the first half , he got caught with the ball & put us in deep trouble & then he passed straight to their striker who should have gone on & scored , if it had been Stones the pundits would have had a field day. He did improve after the break but a lot of that was down to them sitting deeper & deeper thus allowing our central defenders to go forward & look good , this would not happen against better opposition , there is no way he was any where near MOM, Trippier & Stones were well in front of him

Seems to me the only current player any other top team would want in their side would be Harry Kane. The rest.......a lot to prove.

You arnt understanding what I’m saying here.
Warnock as assistant to give the England players that awkward edge that they need.
Not to be determining the whole tactics.

As for the quality of England players.
We have had enough quality players in England to win EVERY World Cup since 1966.
At one time we used to put foreign players on a pedestal and reporters used to regularly comment on how much better these foreign players were compared to English players.

    But then things changed.
Over this last few decades most of the best players in the world play in the English league so we can measure their ability directly against English players.
And it’s clear to see that England has quality players but they continue to under perform.
Fine example of this is Sterling.
Another one that stands out is John Barnes.

Err Did I miss us winning the world cup with those players. that was Svens Golden Generation and massively underacheived

    "
In Germany, however, England were less than convincing. A 1–0 win against Paraguay was won because of an own goal. The game against new boys Trinidad and Tobago saw England have to wait until the 83rd minute for England to take the lead, with Peter Crouch opened the scoring with a goal many felt was illegal.

The last group game saw England play against Sweden, with both teams again settling for a draw (2–2) to see them qualify for the next round as group winners, thereby avoiding playing Germany."

We scraped though the next round 1-0 with a Beckham free kick against Ecuador before being knocked out by the first decent side we played Portugal.
