I have a blocked drain outside - tried cleaning first with bleach, then caustic soda earlier as per some internet recommendations. All it's succeeded in doing is filling the drain with ****-smelling water. So what was a slight problem is now a bigger problem.

Anyone on here specialise in sorting that out, or know someone who does? Think it's gone beyond a DIY case...

    In Elsecar.

    Cheers,
    KFC

You need to find metal cover be a few yards from house, will be blocked in there, then need some drain rods ,or if it's not too full .might get it moving with boiling water, mine was up to brim ,need a strong stomach ,good luck,

Have you tried shoving an hosepipe down the drain, stuffing the drain with a towel to seal off the entrance and turning on the hose?

Nope, smell of sewage is pretty strong so don't want to risk adding any more water and overflowing it

Dynorod, or their ilk........it'll cost about £100 and they'll clear it in about 5 minutes, but some things are best left to some other poor bugger and it's money well earnt. o_O:confused:

Coincidentally I've been unblocking a drain at work today. Was cleaning a path when I noticed a drain was full of black gunk. Shoved the pressure washer in and was hit with the most rank sewage smell known to man and a lot of black oily filthy water shooting in the air but still well and truly blocked. I left it an hour and the water level hadn't dropped at all and was still all over the path so I dumped 5 ltrs of some kind of cleaner down there and left it an hour l, still no change but a lot of smell so I looked on the net and found a guy advising the rag and hose technique. I did it and within about a minute I heard a whoosh and the rags sort of sunk further into the drain. Pulled them out and it was clear.

Its worth giving it a go but then I was doing it at work where I could do a runner if it all went to **** (literally) and you have it at home

When you say, "or their ilk" - any suggestions? I'm kinda resigned to needing to pay the pros, but would prefer someone local if possible. Which I guess is why I'm posting it on a football forum!!

Purely from Google there's a bloke in Worsbrough called direct drainage that has good reviews, he did a job unblocking a drain before a game at oakwell in November.

There's also pro jett blocked drains in Cudworth that offers 24/7 free call out

It may be that it’s the sewer that’s blocked, if it is blocked call Yorkshire water ( if you’re in this area ) it’s their responsibility.

Cheers @SuperTyke appreciate the help. I've had a recommendation from a plumber mate who I'll follow up first but will keep this in the back pocket. Been warned off Pro Jett. I've covered the drain with a big piece of stone so hopefully not a hazard to anyone beyond the smell!

You can buy drain rods from screwfix for £25, lift the man hole lid and push the rods down and I'm sure you'll sort it.
