I'd have thought we should be attempting to sign players good enough to make the step up to the championship not keep hold of players that might make the step down. Shows what I know.
I think that with the loan signings going back, & Hammill , Townsend & Yiadom going, then the spaces to be filled are already there . I have said from the offset, that four or five additions to the current squad would put us in good shape , I repeat , I do not want to see last summers 16 players out & 16 players in scenario repeating itself , but obviously should other players depart, then they want replacing but as a club I hope we stand firm & do not start a fire sale
Little point in keeping players we don’t feel that can progress or take us to the next level. Not aimed at Pearson in particular as that’s for the coaching staff to decide but if they don’t it’s right to sell him.
Maybe they didn't delete that bit from the knasmullner copy and paste? ;-) He cant have cost £500k if that is the case, can't see Luton spending over that to get a 3rd to 4th choice utility defender
I believe, even without investment, our club is very capable of promotion to the Championship. That's not Billy big ballacks, it's that we consistently achieve attendances amongst the highest in the division. With that in mind I'd like to see us recruit players capable of that step up. There were a number of players last season for whom the championship was beyond them. Pearson was one of those. So, if we receive an acceptable offer we should sell to make room in the squad for someone who hopefully can step up rather than keep someone we know cannot. We already have two right full backs, two left full backs and three centre halves. Pearson was behind them all. To receive a transfer fee in excess of what we paid for a player so far down the pecking order is, imho, an excellent bit of business. We need to do the same with some of our midfield players and hopefully recruit far better than last summer bringing in players who can not only help with a promotion push but also hold their own in the league above
Think you are slightly missing my point, we are not in the Championship , we are in division one & although he has now gone I still think he was a useful squad player , we may have two more right backs but I am not impressed with either & we need four centre backs going into a season & Pearson could have covered both positions but the real point is that we are selling to rivals, I do not get that at all , I hope its a trend that does not continue .
Anybody suggesting Pearson could play for us at full back this year needs their head test testing. He was the worst full back I’ve seen in many a year and we’ve had some shockers. Was half decent in the middle but miles behind Lindsay, Jackson and Pinnock.
Pearson must have been assessed and the new coaching team must have been convinced that his game does not suit the " gegenpress" style of play, they intend to play, so it's probably the best compromise to sell him to Luton. If Mowatt goes there too, we will at least have the inside line on him, Pearson and Elliott Lee if they feature for Luton Town when we meet them. Matty goes with my best wishes. Tried his best every time he pulled the famous Red shirt on. Thank you Matty Pearson and good luck for the future as far as I am concerned.
