I've been watching Barnsley since the late 70s and the squad we have now is easily the least equipped we've ever had in that time to play "high-pressing, attacking, aggressive, hard-working football."

I'm not having a dig at the players here, I'm not saying they're unfit or don't work hard in training. But the amount you train and how hard you train is only half of it. Seb Coe wasn't the fastest 800 metre runner of his time because he trained harder than everyone else. He did train hard, but so did his competitors. He also had amazing natural fitness, natural talent.

We've assembled a squad of players who haven't got great natural stamina. Better than me, but not great compared the majority of the other professional athletes they compete against. They're all as fit as a butchers dog, they work hard, but come 60 minutes they tire much more rapidly and much more dramatically than their opponents. We saw it time and again last season as we fell apart in the second half.

A team usually has a blend of players with varying degrees of natural fitness. We just happen to have, at this time, a large number of players for whom stamina isn't their greatest asset. Last season I reckon we had four players for whom stamina wasn't a problem: Yiadom, Gardner, Hammill and Bradshaw. And yet we were still overrun in the second half in many games. Three of those have now gone.

If we play this high tempo, high pressing game with this squad of players, we're going to get slaughtered week after week.

Have to agree. I don't think we pressed anywhere near as hard as the previous season either, yet were completely knackered in the last 25% of the game. We did score late against the blunts, but that was more sheer bloodymindedness, and noticeable the subs were instrumental in those two goals.

If the new coach can get this group of players fit, pressing and attacking aggressively with success for 90 minutes... he deserves a medal and it would be an incredible achievement.

Why dont you go and support someone else must be one of the dumbest remarks seen on here. Leave it art fella not needed, disagree by all means.

No need at all. If you don't agree then challenge the points raised.

I really do disagree with this, I think with McCarthy, pinnock, lyndsay, Mcgeehan fryers, Potts, hedges Isgrove, Bradshaw, Moore and a few additions after a good full pre season we have some top league 1 players who could play that style well and would be physically fit, strong and determined to succeed.
