For years, we've watched England's displays at World Cups and European Championships at our house, with the usual results. Last night, for the first time ever, the two of us watched the game at Ian's. We not only win, but do so with a penalty shoot out! Not that we're superstitious, or anything, though(!) Absolutely not(!) But we'll both have to definitely wear the same clothes for the Sweden game! Just a warning for anyone going through Dodworth on Saturday. That big bloke, wearing a tutu skirt, black stockings and suspenders will be me!
I was sat with our very own Matt Bailey and our better half’s in a bar in Ibiza, what a night it was. Everyone singing “it’s coming home” Brilliant!
I have a similar superstition. I have an England 1966 replica long sleeved shirt that I bought prior to Euro 96. It has been warn for every England win this tournament and has not been washed yet. I deliberately did not wear it for the Belgium game. Will be back on this Saturday afternoon. It's coming home.
Wondering how Barnsley 66 was doing after his hip replacement JWBigLil, as I had my operation on the 28th June. Pleased to say I am on the road to recovery now. Fortunately the 24/7 pain from my hip has gone, so I'm just left with the localised gyp from the operation site where they cut through the muscle and tendons to get to the joint. Fully conscious during the procedure. Really eerie listening to the drilling, chiselling and hammering. Got back to my room and watched the World Cup in my favourite Reds Lotto top ( my BBS emoji).Seemed to attract one particular nurse who looked after me extra specially well when she knew I was a Red. Turns out she went to her first Reds game with her Grandad one Frank Bokas who played 89 games for the Reds between 1936-39. He settled in the area married a local lass and died age 82 in his beloved Barnsley in 1996. Supported the Club at all home games, before his health deteriorated. Hope Ian and yourselves change of routine does the trick on Saturday. Think they've a good chance of getting to the Semis. After that, from what we've seen thus far, I'm in two minds whether they can win it. Time will tell us of course. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Bokas
Great to hear about your recovery and progress, old mate. Keep up the good work. Ian has frequently told me the operation was so positive for him, freeing him from the constant pain he was suffering. Ah, Frank Bokas. Celebrated for a goal against Manchester United, when the United goalie palmed Frank's long throw in into his own net! As for England, I really don't know what to expect from them after the years of hurt (that'd make decent lyrics for a song!). I certainly won't be guilty of any underestimation of the next,or potential future, opposition now we've reached the latter stages of the World Cup.
Thanks for that big feller. In the words of the song after all the rubbish I have had to go through over the past four years health wise, " Things can only get better". The nurse Sarah (nee Bokas) , said that she knew he was renowned for doing something unusual, but couldn't remember what it was.! Some lasses don't understand how passionate we are about football. Once took my niece to a really boring game involving Donny and Southend. After about ten minutes she looked at me really frustrated and said " can you turn it over or off Uncle." Just about sums up how rubbish they were back then. Hoping and praying we do the double over them this upcoming campaign. As for England, I fancy us against Sweden. If Croatia beat Russia, that could be close. It then depends on who comes through from the other semi. If they do make the final however, they will have done really well.
Glad to hear it’s gone well for you. As biglil said, the difference is amazing. Like you I was conscious during the op but I fell asleep during it! Woke up as they were stapling my scar. My operation was exactly 12 months before yours, 28/06/2017. Take it easy, do the exercises, go to the physio, and it should be great. I’ve just had my final check and everything is okay. Good luck donny.
Cheers bud. I am working hard doing the excercises and am looking forward to working with the " physioterrorists", because the sooner I can get myself right, the sooner I can get down to "the Shrine."
