    Anyone got one?
    A they ok?
Do your bills seem more realistic?
Do you still pay a standard monthly DD or just the monthly useable?

Getting inundated with suppliers wanting to fit them for me.

    Cheers

Waste of time. A complete con perpetrated on the British public by a government with no morals.
...and yes it is a political issue. Tax payers money funding companies to install pieces of equipment which lose their functionality as soon as you switch suppliers ( which is another con!)

We have hod one for a few years. It's a real eye opener when you see just how much energy you are using in real time. Only problem is, I became obsessed with the thing and getting our usage down...

Complete waste of time, your usage doesn't change, might mean you don't have to submit monthly readings, which is only slight tangible benefit

I've not got one and I can't see the point for the reasons mentioned in this thread. 1) I would become obssessed. 2) If you switch supplier it doesn't work and you have to get a new one which seems a faff.

You don’t need a smart meter to see your usage in real time. There’s another cheaper device that I had for years. In reality though you soon get bored of checking the usage and unplug the useless thing.

Should also add that once you’ve got one there’s no going back. Then when you switch supplier you’ve got to read your new digital meter which means remembering what buttons to push ( different for the electric and gas meters ) and one of mine has a malfunctioning read out anyway.

I had no idea that if you switched supplier it didn't work. Seen as I change every 12 months this would be a real issue for me.

Depends on if the meter is SMETS v1 or v2. The later v2 meters can change supplier but guess which ones are being rolled out?

Been offered them a few times but I've always just said no. My main reason was that they would want to give a 12hr window for when they might actually come. Coupled with not seeing a real benefit. Now to learn this seems like a horrible con.

Can you switch suppliers easily with yours? Because the best way I have found to save money on gas and electric is to switch every 12 months.

    A mop wouldn't askfor a 12 hour installation window

We paid £20 for the installation which gives us the option to move suppliers

But yes you are right some you cannot

I didn't even know it was a thing until I saw this thread. Think I'll be leaving mine as they for now then.

I've had one for about 2 years and I'm still obsessed with checking it. My family hate the sodding thing as I'm constantly moaning at them for leaving lights on that cost us a trillionth of a penny per year or some **** like that...
