I am usually calm over the transfers (apart from you know when) but nar am getting a bit pis5ed off. Plenty of action on outgoings but fukc all on incomings. A number of what I think would be key players for us more than likely on their way. Pull ya fingers art lads and let’s improve our squad. COYR
I bet they are waiting for the world cup to finish so they will have had time to assess which internationals would be willing to come to Barnsley for the start of the new season. As Patrick once said "Have faith." Or alternatively we could go into August short of about ten players and panic buy.... as per usual.
It's not more or less players, but paying em.. the difference between L1 and championship is .6 million quid, before a ball is kicked. If they don't go straight back up, then get ready for fire sale next summer.. A lot of pressure on the owd germans this season,
Because they have to cut their wage bills due to reduced income/revenue in the lower leagues. Clubs further up the chain can afford far bigger squads
Well you should be asking Mr Conway and Lee to get their hands in their pockets then.... Or you can have a wip round with the faithful..
I am getting a bit worried tbf. Our first pre season game is tomorrow and we've signed no-one for the first team. What are we waiting on? We're hardly gonna be signing players who have played/are playing in the world cup. I think we have some good players for league one but the squad definitely needs bolstering, and that's not happened at all yet.
Relax, it's just a balancing issue. We have had too many players competing for certain positions. Once we've trimmed in those areas I think we'll start to see the weaker areas being strengthened. Rome wasn't built in a day. My advice is to forget about The Reds and let the world cup fill any football void for the next couple of weeks. Then see how things are looking.
Personally I think all new players have been signed n just waiting for new kit to be launched to reveal names
Well taking into account the under 23s who agreed contracts yesterday, we have 28. If we bring in say 5, we'll have 33. Seeing as you can only have 18 involved on a match day, carrying 15 extra players seems highly overindulgent. In league 1 I'd rather bring in a handful of players who are our main assets, allow our own youth a chance and try and keep as settled a team as possible. Part of our problem last year (quality aside) was the constant chopping and changing, so few got a long run and players didn't build enough understanding.
It's not particularly the quantity of players I don't think, more Financial Fair Play. Couple that with being overloaded with players in similar positions - Pearson and Mallan play in positions we are well covered in, so certainly assets we can afford to let go.
Just don't get the panic. Just looks to me as though he has pretty much assessed what we have and has let some go either not up to standard or didn't want to be here. Outgoings as Gally pointed out will bring in additional funds for the transfer kitty which may very well play a part in deciding if we go for player A who may cost a little more than the next choice down the list. Most clubs in the division have yet to start signing people, it is just starting to pick up now with the odd mention on SSN etc. My guess is we'll have some fresh faces in by mid month, especially after a couple of pre season games when that may highlight gaps in what we have to balance the squad. Certainly no need to rush for the sake of it.
Not worried as of yet though you would like to think the aim would be to move in the next couple of weeks so we don't have the old players coming in late and getting up to speed problem. Sadly it doesn't always work out this way. At least this season the transfer window will be closed by the first game so we will k ow where we are
Out of the players to leave none were 1st team regulars, so won't be directly missed & are in positions where we have plenty of cover, especially with Mowatt & McGheegan back in the building. If Bradshaw does end up going (apparently his agent has been pushing for that since the end of the season) he would be the only one who would automatically come in, to replace McBurnie. Loanees have left & need replacing, but i think they may be replaced again with more loanees, rather than signings, which would mean getting them towards the end of the window. We aren't short of players, quality perhaps, but not bodies, the new manager can have a look & see what is needed, before signing players in positions already covered. Our squad was too big last season & not good enough, rater wait than make that same mistake again....
As frustrating as it can be at times waiting for news, I work on the premise we have to trust them in knowing what they are doing. Some of you may laugh at that but time will tell and what choice do we have anyway? I always held the view give the owners a full preseason and see no reason why the new coaching team can t have the same before beginning to pass judgement on.
