We know the head coach is here to coach not to bring in players . So as you say DS is unlikely to be the one buying or selling . Some folk are still not getting it though !
What conspiracy ? You still don’t get it after all this time ? We don’t have a manager we have a head coach who coaches the players but does not do the recruitment or the selling !
Kinda weird that we were tracking him for a year allegedly and we’d just let him go after a season where the majority of players struggled. Although neither Hecky or Morais selected him for a decent amount of time so I suppose that could tell it’s own story. I had high hopes for him in league 1 though but looks like it wasn’t to be.
The head coach does have a say though. If you listen to GG's latest interview on RS he states the head coach will detail characteristics/requirements/type of player he requires to suit his ideas. The recruitment team will then identify half a dozen or so players to suit this criteria. The head coach will then choose which he wants from the pool identified.
Doesn’t sound like much. Would have hoped we could have got more as he had at least 2 years on his contract. He’s obviously highly rated in Scotland and by Lennon. And been capped by scotland u21. If we’ve let him leave for peanuts then I am wondering what lessons have been learnt. For that price might as well have kept him, and hopefully unlocked the talent that was first identified to bring him in. Ah well. Good luck to the lad. Hope he smashes it back up North and we get 40% of his £5m transfer in a couple of years.
Same millwaaaaallll that had their whats the sarf london term manor taken over by barnsley. The same that spent half the winter saying they were going to rape and pilage barnsley on st paddys day like some vikings of old whos collective arses dropped and those what did get brave got thier just rewards. That millwall?
I might have got my timelines screwed up here but when did GG take the job? If it's over a year ago then he's signed Pearson and Mallan, then a year later after a relegation got rid of them both. Seems a little odd. Either he has no patience or he has realised he's dropped a few ******** and it trying to rectify.
I dont know how people listening to or reading GG's last interview find this so hard to understand. Im utterly convinced some of our supporters think that when the manager is looking for a keeper the recruitment team bring him an inflatable sheep, a box of tinsel and 40 Benny Hedges and say 'balls to thi, work wi that instead'.
I really hope he performs well for Hibs. He looked like a player when we signed him, it hasn’t worked out for either party and he’s got a chance to start again. 29 days to the season starts, the focus appears to be cutting the squad rather than any additions. It will be very interesting to see the starting line up on August 4th.
Bit disappointed in this as he never really got a run of games like other players.... With that being said he rubbed me the wrong way sometimes- I remember his first interview he said something like "you've got to come down South (England) for the money." and I remember some of his Instagram posts during our relegation battle he seemed more interested in planning his holidays than he did playing for Barnsley. Not sure if I'm just being grumpy though because I did think he had potential. I'll be happy to see a fully healthy McGeehan get a proper chance now though. Mallan was behind him, Potts, and Moncur in the pecking order for me..
Agree. His skill not in doubt. Fitness / application seemed to be what stood in his way. Maybe he didn't settle down here. Hibs is a decent move for him & Edinburgh a great place to live.
I honestly believe that if we hang onto Bradshaw and Moore, young Potts will be a really key player for us in League One. Those three will cause absolute havoc.
Who does select the players? In the quote below Ganaye says 'we' do. I'm not sure who 'we' are, but it must include himself otherwise it makes no grammatical sense. And it can't include the current manager, because he wasn't with us at the time. “The last months of the season we had been working on the two different scenarios between League One and the Championship, we were all hoping we would use the Championship one but unfortunately it was League One. But, we were prepared for this and we had a list of different player targets for each division we may have been in, we were prepared." https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2018/june/gg-interview/ I also think about the signing of Thiam. We employ a French CEO then quickly sign a French forward who few people in France have heard of never mind England. Ganaye didn't choose him? Really? And it doesn't end there. They're not just selecting the players, they're choosing the tactics: “We [Board of Directors] really sat down and thought about how we wanted to begin the process of appointing a new manager and the first question was about the style of play, which would be the most successful and what style would match both the Club and the mentality of the town. We identified the style first which was a counter-pressing and high-intensity attacking model, so we then looked to identify candidates who would fit that and be able to implement that style and Daniel was one of the best at that." I think back to what Cloughy used to say about the directors at football clubs, non football men, what they know about football, and then I look at the model under which we're operating...
I think he's using 'we' meaning the club, which is fair enough in my opinion. However, the bloke will be pulled up on everything negative unless the team starts winning. It goes with being the CEO when the club's had two different owners, three Head Coaches and a relegation during your twelve months in the job. As for Cloughie, my all-time favourite non Barnsley manager, I loved his quote about fans thinking they know what they're talking about when it comes to tactics, "Players lose you games, not tactics. There's so much crap talked about tactics by people who barely know how to win at dominoes”.
