If you are at all interested in football from days gone by. On BBC Alba tonight at 9 is a great documentary on Third Lanark and why it folded from being one of Scotlands major clubs.
Don't worry about it being on the Gaelic speaking channel sub titles are on and lots of it is in English. I've seen it before and will watch again. Worth a watch.

Along the same lines, I've never been to Torquay's Plaimoor ground, or Twerton Park when Bristol Rovers played there.

Didn't they play the odd international at Cathkin Park? Or have I dreamed that?

When I were a lad in Wombwell I used to buy a small pink block of chewing gum with a potted history of a Football club wrapped around it .
And the only one I remember is Third Lanark .

Maybe you only bought the one. LOL
Can't remember those chewing gum blocks. Used to buy Bazooka Joes. Thirds went out of business 1967 so then you are talking early 60s. I may have had them but cant remember them.
Not sure if I ever saw Third Lanark. My Dad started taking me to Tannadice possibly around 63/64 but no real memories so I might have been at a thirds game but I'll never know.

Watched Third Lanark play Patrick Thistle at Cathkin as a teenager in the 50s. Always thought it was a better ground than Shawfield which I’d been to the previous year.

From the pictures and seeing what is left of Cathkin Park it really was a proper football stadium. I have only visied Shawfield once. A greyhound track with small terracing and a football pitch in the middle. Never a football stadium. Now only grey hounds there.

I've always fancied going to have a kick around at Cathkin.

Thanks for the tip. The name originates from a Scottish regiment in the British army. The club was formed by ex soldiers.

I watched the documentary and really enjoyed it, thanks for the heads up Ian. Quite emotional at times too.

And a rich owner shafting the club and single-handedly bankrupting the club. Who'da thought it?

Has nobody ever tried to restart the Thirds as a phoenix club? Sickening that they were allowed to die with barely a whimper.

Compare and contrast with that other Glasgow club...
