after watching various news reports on the World Cup I have to say that after an England goal, I have never once been tempted to chuck my beer away! ( well most of it will be beer)
Got to agree. Also not sure why the BBC seem to think that somebody throwing beer over somebody else is a 'good showing' but somebody who doesn't do it is 'disappointing'
I don't get it either. It seems to be becoming a way of demonstrating how much you love football. If somebody said every time we score you need to chuck £3.50 in the air you would think they had a screw loose or if you were watching at home you wouldn't chuck your beer all over the settee and floor when there was a goal.
I know it makes me miserable but the beer throwing is the reason I've stayed at home to watch all the matches so far. I used to always go to the pubs but I can't stand my hair and clothes being covered in beer (or being hit by things when people decide to chuck stuff at the TVs when we concede).
I saw yesterday that England doing well is great for our economy and is providing a big boost, alongside the warm weather. I'm not suprised if everyone is chucking £3-£5 worth of beer into the air every time we score and then having to buy another straight after for the next time.
The value of lager company shares probably trebled after the Panama game. I was investing in Lloyds bank shares earlier in the summer. I missed a trick by not buying shares in Stella.
I was persuded to go with my brother to the garrison yesterday. for the match....i can concur ...totally drowned in beer!!...great atmos tho....singing flag waving the lot. Still washing my stuff out now!!
We’re all from Yorkshire, ive just been watching videos of goal celebrations on the bbc website, every fan park they showed celebrated in the same way throwing ale in the air, apart from Leeds, the floor in the sports bar in Gainsbough was like a swimming pool near the bar aera. Folk walking around like drowned rats, it won’t have been like that in many Yorkshire pubs. Like some have already said, its £3.60 a pint, in fan zones i bet its a 5er, wasting money is just not a Yorkshire thing to do. Historically were minors and steel workers and we worked really hard in dangerous conditions for our money, and we’ve all been brought up to respect that, and not be wasteful and be thankful of what we have. And even though the pits and steel works have gone, we as Yorkshire people are still bringing our kids up with the same values we was brought up with. So most of us on here will never understand throwing ale in the air.
Trust me you get beer chucked around in Yorkshire. I've watched all 5 matches in a pub, 2 in Tarn, 2 in Leeds and 1 in Sheffield and I've been drenched every single time. I don't get it personally but its just a thing that happens.
I wouldn't do it, I wouldn't like getting covered in it if I was there, but on the videos it looks like a brilliant celebration. One of those, that looks amazing so long as I don't have to do it sort of things.
The problem is that unless they've asked permission from everyone in attendance then all they are is selfish *beeps*. As you say you wouldn't like getting covered in it which basically means you can't watch a game in public because zero consideration is given by the minority for anyone else
Given how much money the players earn they should be pouring it into our gobs. I'm very careful with my beer, my records, but sadly my reputation lets me down. I buy lots of folks drinks outside of rounds, but I don't throw it away.
I don't remember the last time I paid more than £3.50 All for really good stuff. Usually I pay about £2 No 7, Bramahs, Silkstone, Tipsy Cow and Arcade Bar in town all do it for those sort of prices There's some cracking pubs in town these days around the town hall end, that lot plus 00Bar, Supper Cub, EVO, Pubs in Mapplewell and Barugh Green are going from strength to strength. Those that stuck with Carling, Fosters and John Smiths may be struggling, but those serving real ale, quality continental lagers, different gins, cocktails and good food are flourishing.
My mate's pub is opening soon on the site of Brownes (under it's historical name, Temple of Muses). Good ales & music...
I am exactly the same. My group of friends have just been taking it in turns to have the others round for the game.
It's young 'uns mate , they can't drink their ale so just chuck it away at the first opportunity . It's the new plant pot drinker that always went home sober .
