Didn't we pay peanuts for Winnall? I wouldn't write anything off at this level. There are probably one or two players in league 2 or Scottish leagues that would come cheaply and shine at this level. Majority of our last promotion winning side came in on the cheap from lower leagues. Sticking with the same plan and targets in the championship is what we need to avoid if we get back up there.
Yes we did get Winnall on the cheap but it was at the going rate at the time but we sold very cheap, way under the going rate & we are in danger of doing it again with Bradshaw . I am not against buying & developing players, we have done very well at it but we have got a squad currently what was put together for the championship but fell short , however , with one or two additions we should be able to mount a serious attempt at getting back , if we dismantle this squad our chances of a quick return become all that much harder . I also think that with the obscene amount of money in the premier league , a knock on effect on player values has gone through the roof & the days of picking a good quality division one striker on the cheap are gone , unless you get lucky with a striker from the continent but do not take Thiam as an example !
I seem to recall that it was said, at the time, that Winnall cost exactly the same amount as what we got for Danny Rose. And the rumoured fee was £250k. Seemed a far fetched statement then, and even more so now, given the opposite direction their careers have headed, with Rose at Mansfield (last I knew) and Winnall alienating himself against larger fan bases across the Championship.
Sod the price. Millwall should be told to do one. I'd rather him be released for nowt than sell him to that club
I don't think this squad will be dismantled. Maybe one or two, but I'm confident we have the nucleus of a good group of players and with a few additions now and in January we will be competitive. If I had to choose between Moore and Bradshaw I would let Bradshaw go, and give Thiam a go up top with Moore. . He gets a clean slate from me in league one same as rest of them now. I just hope we can get Akinfenwa to sign and we'll be promotion certs.
And that highlights the sketchy nature of football. I keep seeing "Philgoingcuckoo" basing his opinions on "common sense", but he really means "works well in theory", but there are no real certainties in football. Just some things carry less risk but can still go tits up. I often read "player A went for £££ so our lad should be worth the same" but there are so many variables that we know little about. It's a rum do sithi
I think Moore & Bradshaw would be one of the best pairings in the league but Thiam who I think has talent , somehow will find the pressing game not to his liking. I agree with you that with two or three additions we would have the makings of a good squad but the main key is goals & we have the firepower at the club now & it would be in our best interests to keep the pair as opposed to gambling on getting an adequate replacement for either of them . Having said all that , sign Akinfenwa & my fears will disappear !
SSN reporting that he is in advanced talks with Millwall so expect him to be gone soon............. Can't say I'm that bothered because never really saw the player others do but a little concerned we seemingly have no replacement
If true then why the hell are we playing him? Let's get him nice and fit, scoring goals and full of confidence to hit the ground running at Millwall, typical BFC if so.
Bloomin pathetic this yet again by us, we're offering every team our best assets for just a few quid profit!!. And IF Bradshaw and/or Moore do go, who are we going to replace them with, yet more lower league unknowns who need at least a season to settle in ?. This is all starting to feel extremely underwhelming with just 25 days to go till the season starts.
if its true and bradders is off then an 'absolute clusterf××k' is simply the only way to describe this club since this set of skint multi billionaires took over. If we start the first game with that shower Thiam up front, then were doomed.
Thiam will quite probably look good in this division. I think some have forgotten how woeful the level actually is. Massive drop in quality - especially defensively. He will be alright at this level I think. Doesn’t mean we should sell Bradshaw, but if he’s so set on going, get the money in. But more than 800k. Jesus fecking Christ league two sides get more for players who’ve not been above that level. They can’t sell both Bradshaw and Moore you would hope, and I’d keep Kieffer over Tom to be fair.
