Wondered if anyone has any memories of this game? This was the day my little brother was born, and we're always treated to the story of how my dad popped in for the birth, hung about for about 20 minutes and then sped off down the 'Well so he wouldn't miss the match (with my mum's permission of course). I was only 5 at the time. I guess it would have been a pretty important game given we finished in the play-offs that year. Who remembers it? Any of you ever skipped or bailed early on something really important to get to a Reds game?
Richard Sneekes scored a penalty and I think it was Bob Taylor who scored the late equaliser. They were in relegation trouble and we should have won really. I recall their fans being loud but not much else.
Remember it reasonably well. Good crowd, and the penalty was a shocking decision, ball clearly won (I think by Morgan). Friends of mine knew a league referee called John Kirkby, who lived out Penistone way, and he apparently offered an honest and scathing view of his fellow professional colleague!! I'm on a mission to remember his name. This was followed the week after by a 2-2 draw away at Port Vale where Morgan conceded a last minute penalty for handball, again a harsh decision, by a ref who I didn't like, Paul Taylor. 4 points dropped in a week, just at the wrong time.
Weirdly, I have absolutely no recollection of this game even though I must have been there. To be fair I was doing a lot of clubbing at the time, which may account for my lack of clarity......
You are correct on that one, didn't last long from memory, could tell you a story about Paul Taylor as well if I had time
