Mallan was our first signing last Summer yet Hecky dint seem interested in him at all. My thoughts are this signing was done when Hecky was on hols and and not one he agreed with or he left him out to show the spreadsheet that he needed to be consulted on transfers.
2 coaches who saw him in training week in and week out didn’t think he was good enough to play in the Championship. If he had been good enough he would have played. This idea he didn’t get his chance is laughable.
Two failed coaches though. According to Mallan Hecky had a plan for him to adapt to the English game and he was right on course and ready around the time he left for oeeds Jose came in and we all know his opinion means nothing
Neither is Thiam. Would have preferred to sell him than Mallan. Thiam is as close to a championship player as me. Suppose its all to do with the demand for a player, cant aee many takers for the 'wheelie bin' as i call him.
First signing in, ready for start of pre season training and gets to start 5 games plus a couple of sub appearances, meks me wonder summat aint reight. Potts signed on Thursday starts Saturday clearly unfit.
Thiam played well under Morais in the 4-3-3 system. Got some decent balls in and won a lot in the air.
I can see what you mean about Championship level, but I'm disappointed we've not held on to him for L1. You could apply your logic to Mowatt, Bird and McGeehan yet I wouldn't be surprised to see the latter two making a contribution next season. The difference is that Mallan has had enough and wants to go home. Understandable, I suppose. With all the ins and outs and ups and downs, it's easy to forget just how young these lads are. I'd have probably felt just the same at his age.
Here's the highlights. To put the match into context Hibs played a team from the Faroe Isles. Mallan scores the 4th and 6th. The 4th is a joke and the 6th sees the keeper in flapping mode.
All coaches are failed coaches eventually arent they I should probably have said 3 coaches as our new one has looked at him and got rid.
Last year was a car crash and we just can't escape it. To buy so many "number 10s" and then play formations that didn't even suit was ridiculous. We've still got one too many in midfield unless the new coach can truly turn 2 of them into all rounder types. I hope Mallan does well and I reckon he will. I don't know what his attitude was like in training, but to be ignored for a season (5 starts and just 4 sub in a season as dreadful as it was, with a midfield so awful makes it even worse), he's done pretty well to keep his spirits up and moving back home makes absolute sense. I just can't understand how we came to waste so much money last year on players who didn't play at all, or didn't suit the system the coach was trying to play. Completely insane.
Not convinced he's been here long enough yet. My guess is that he's working from other people's assessments, plus the fact that Mallan wanted away. I think most of us on here agree that we need to ship some out to make way for new faces, so maybe that had a part in it too..
Judging by the 'we made a profit' statement I would hazard a guess that the sole reason for selling was the spreadsheet dictated it was the time for the maximum potential sale value. I don't think the views of any head coach really comes into it as evidenced by previous actions under the same plan
I've no idea what we paid or sold Mallan for, but I can't imagine we added much to his value if we rarely played him. I'm not sure many managers have much say in when players leave. Seems to be dictated by the players these days.
