Is that due to the facilities available, or the staff responsible for ensuring fitness levels are at the required standard? Does automatically it mean we're going to be unfit this coming season because we're going to Hungary again?
It could be down to any of the above. Just seems like a strange choice to go back to the same place unless of course the club believes that the location and facilities were excellent and our coaches did such a terrible job in spite of this. In which case I'm amazed we didn't dismiss our fitness and coaching staff
I would say it’s more to do with who runs the camp! It’s like saying why are we playing at Oakwell next year when we didn’t win many matches. It sounds like Stendel is not messing about with fitness! I’m excited again. Doesn’t take much mind!
Chuff me. There was I thinking Im the only Tull fan in the village and I cant even get an iconic track title right!
Perhaps Stendel has different standards? If our fitness levels are the same this season as they were last, is that due to the facilities, or another reason? If the levels are higher, will that be because of the facilities, or despite them?
What I meant was that if we were so unfit (as we all surely agree we were) why wasn't any of our coaching staff dismissed last season? We get rid of players who don't perform but I don't recall seeing that the coaches who underperformed were dismissed (other than morais' lot who can't really take the blame for season long fitness issues). If it is nothing to do with the coaches then that surely makes the decision to go back to the same facilities a bit daft. Then again I think the whole idea of summer training camps abroad is completely daft and is just something that clubs do because it's the done thing rather than because it genuinely helps
We have different coaches this year (Stendel, Winkler, Stern). If the fitness levels are the same as twelve months ago, I'd agree that the facilities could well be a contributing factor. As for going abroad on such a camp, it puzzles me why a similar set up in Britain couldn't be used. However, just because I'm not aware of the benefits that will be achieved doesn't mean that said benefits don't exist.
Possibly going to an Eastern European, non-English speaking country is: a). Cheaper than in the UK b). Offers less distractions - no TV, newspapers, etc c). Available and suited to our needs. Probably many other reasons to. If I was in charge, I'd probably pick somewhere mountainous (Switzerland, Austria) for altitude fitness training, but would certainly be away from distractions. Take their phones off them on departure, and let them bond properly with no electronic interference and no ability to contact their agents
What about being able to contact their partners or children? Not everyone will be a single man; Adam Davies for example became a dad a few months ago. I find it amazing how people don’t think of footballers as people. If you went on a course at work for a few days I don’t think you’d accept them taking your phone off you at the start like you’re a naughty school kid.
Steel Monkey is my favourite track on it. Good grief - I’ve just realised it was released 31 years ago. Stuff a stoat ☹️
When we sent a team of guys on a cruise ship for 2 weeks out of Europe they were rationed to 10 mins every second day on a communal phone, no body objected.
