He can be frustrating with his inconsistencies in front of goal but his pace scares defenders. I thought he was our best player when we were on top against Croatia so I don’t know if that says anything?
More like the Chris Dagnall of the England team. Works his nuts off, but it's just not happening for him where it matters. Not entirely his fault I suppose, the service to our front men has been poor throughout the tournament.
As already has been said he gave others opportunities they didn’t take that’s my opinion and it seems quite a few others . It my point was that whether or not you take that point of view he isn’t *****
This 1st half Sterling lays on a perfect ball for Kane who shoots wide when he should score. Obviously Sterling's fault if OPoster is to be believed. I always thought if a forward is running at defenders and taking them on it is a good idea if a teammate is following up to get any rebounds etc if the pass fails. Other teams seem to do it but if Sterling's move fail we never seem to have anyone following up. Also seen two occasions when Sterling received the ball with three players tight on him. I suppose that is his fault too when he loses possession.
Again never called him that but it's also a lot of people's opinion that he's been very wasteful. I made that exact point in warm up games - gets into great positions but nothing comes from it
I've got to say that I'm on the negative side of the argument here. His best contribution of the tournament was the first 30 minutes against Croatia where his pace caused problems and he looked a threat. The problem is that that is the peak of what he offers. Threat. Absolutely no delivery. His threat has delivered precious little in terms of goals from open play and it's now well into 20 games since he scored himself. Sorry but that's simply not good enough.
Sterling has been the victim of the system Southgate(rightly, in my humble opinion) plays. The lad is tailor made to play as a winger/wide forward, cutting inside and using his pace to cause havoc. He's never been the playmaker type No.10 that I think we needed at the tournament, and I think it would have been interesting to see how Dele Alli would have done in the No.10 role just behind Harry Kane. But that's been the teams big flaw this year. If we had a De Buyne/Moderic type player pulling the strings from midfield, I think we would have beaten Croatia handily. I just hope there is a player or two in the age group teams who will be ready to step up by 2020/2022
Let's be honest, when it comes to misses in this world Cup sterling doesn't come close to being our worst offender.
What I don’t get is, surely Kane, Sterling and Vardy went as the main strikers but Vardy has barely had a kick
He reminds me of Glyn Riley(He used to play for Barnsley) run like hell arms all over the place and no end product.
The elephant in the room to me is much as I like him, Harry Kane has not contributed after the group stages.
