Saw something like that a month ago flying over Dodworth area, wings square at the ends. Might have been a Red Kite. It was a big beggar but I was driving so couldn’t give it close attention
Used to be but got overtaken a few years ago due to habitat disappearing (though what an overpriced furniture shop closing has to do with it I don't know )
Difficult to tell instantly especially when driving but in flight the buzzard has a squarish/rounded tail whereas the kite has a v-shaped notched tail. There are a lot of red kites around Harewood house.
Buzzards have become a lot more active over most regions nowadays. They live off Carrion, like road kill , or leftovers from Foxes etc They are very graceful in how they can hover with little effort for hours ranging their typical haunts They use the air thermals to rise with little wing movement
There is a family of buzzards in a treetop in the field next to our house. We often see them flying so high that you wonder why they are right up there. What can they see???? For such a big bird of prey they have such a girly little squeak, wouldn't frighten a mouse...… or would it !
See a pair of Buzzards regularly around Carlton and Royston. Crows often "mob" them, but they're a fine sight. Seen more this year than ever before.
