No, I know a few people that have been done for a receipt dropping out of their pocket while getting their car keys out in Morrison's. They lie in wait for the opportunity. It's easy money for them. I have a shop in town, in full view of alcoholics and drug users who just chuck their cans in bushes and on the pavement while being 2 yards from a bin.

Many years ago I went to Germany and can remember everyone commenting on how clean the streets were.

What do they do differently to us? Maybe they just bring up their kids better?

Are we just a slobbing nation compared to other European countries?

A receipt dropping from your pocket isn't littering though s the fines are unenforceable though I understand little old ladies don't know that

Is your shop anything of interest to general bbsers?

They ought to make mcdonalds put a unique code on every package and then log against the vehicles etc at the drive thru. Might think twice about chucking it if they know its traceable back to them. However the way it works is unless a copper sees the person dropping it they wont do owt - even if reported. Have it down our lane all the time with em parking up in cars then just drive off leaving a trail of empty mac ds bags and containers where they just lob it out. Absolutely no respect for anyone. Been gonna get some covert cams up but again the law aint on your aide with that. Its a joke.

Education is best... unfortunately our lovely youths are under the impression that it’s someone’s job to clear up after them. They also don’t understand the impact of their vile behaviour. I went to Scotland a couple of years and it was spotless... although along the way I saw council workers picking up the rubbish.

If you’re driving around town, I task you to count to 60 without seeing any rubbish on the journey.... I’ve never got past 5!

One idea for maccies could be for them to run a lottery from their bins. Ie when a customer deposits their rubbish, it gives them a code to win food, money, etc... it would definitely help, and also would save on policing...

It’s not just young people who litter. I’m sick of people pretending that they are the scum of the earth. If it was just young people fly tipping wouldn’t even be a thing, I don’t think they all have mattesses and settees etc. to be leaving around.

Littering isn't an age thing, it's an attitude thing and we all know people of all ages can have great attitudes or terrible attitudes.

I know 20 year old racists and 70 year old racists
20 year olds who drive like dicks and 70 year olds that do
20 year olds who litter and have seen many paps throw things down too

My German step daughter came to live in England for 6 months in 1996 and attended Penistone Grammar School. One of the things she learnt there was to simply chuck litter away rather than find a bin for it. She was then 12 years old and she was bullied mercilessly for trying to do the right thing. It really is upbringing and education - sadly there's loads of people who just can't see anything wrong with littering or fly tipping. Most of us know someone with this attitude.

Must say, I find that cleanliness generally across Europe is way superior to just about anywhere in England (Several places in Italy have had issues with strikes and the authorities refusing to take rubbish though, Naples I think in particular). Luxembourg was absolutely spotless. And they had a pride in it being so. At one stage we were stood deciding which way to go when a woman came up to us, found out our nationality then offered help. After we kindly refused her guidance, she asked us what we thought of her city, and interestingly if it was clean enough.

I don't know what instils that sort of need to be seen as clean and tidy, but we absolutely do not have it in the UK. What's more, I've seen people from overseas who adopt the littering bug, and the same for not recycling.

I think laziness is certainly one factor, a focus on self rather than environment, and very poor education of the impacts of such a simple thing. In some countries, because of lack of money and the pure geography they are in don't have the mechanisms to deal with their rubbish. They burn it or simply throw it into gullies to wash out to sea. Indonesia was a real eye opener and on a tour through a mountainous area, I witnessed 3 young children in the back of a pick up casually throwing their rubbish, in the middle of a beautiful green area of jungle.

We're not as bad as that, but frankly, we should know better. If mainland Europe can largely be clean and tidy so can we. If not, it will come to harm humanity eventually in a tangible way that may well then provoke stronger action.

Too many folk without an ounce of respect for where they live. Regularly have to pick up rubbish from outside my own house, ranging from the usual cans, to f***ing batteries and used condoms. Not what you want to have to explain to two little girls. Don't blame the council but living in Lundwood and seeing them street clean the main road almost every day, to completley ignore the estate where all these scruffy gets are throwing it grates on me. Twice in 2 and a half years I've seen them deviate from the main road. Pride in the community is lacking in a lot of parts of barnsley

They should follow the dust carts round maybe they’ll realise that all the litter in the hedges and grass verges isn’t just from litter louts .
Our street is a disgrace on bin collection day especially if it’s Windy

What really grinds my gears is the lazy numpties who take a bed, fridge or settee out in the country to dump it instead of taking it to one of the council tips.

The council needs a big re-think with their recycling centre policies. They shouldn't be making it more difficult for people to use their facilities. Turning away people without a permit, any ID or the correct postcode isn't a good idea. That doesn't excuse fly-tipping though.
