Don't wish to be negative at this early stage but the fact that there are no rumours about incoming players anywhere leads me to believe that quite simply that is the case. The League one plan seems to be there is no money to spend and the shortfall will be made up by sales of fringe players. Any gaps will be made up by the U23. I notice on Wikipedia that U23 players such as Dylan MH , Victor Ad., etc are now classed as first team not U23. I know it can be edited by anyone but in the past it is usually fairly accurate. Also it explains why we have had full backs etc at Def Midfield positions in Pre Season friendlies. This is to find a suitable compromise. The guy at portsmouth looks to be going to Coventry because they were offering money whilst we wanted to do a swap deal?
I hope I am wrong but it seems the long term aim for the club is to use players coming from the Academy to replace players leaving irrespective of ability.

Also the reason you appoint Foreign coaches is they are used to being told here is your squad, make it work, whereas British coaches / managers are used to having more of a say in recruitment.

In a month's time I would like for you to be able to say "you were wrong" but I am seriously beginning to think I am right??

I still think we will sign a few overseas players but i would be happy enough if we went down the route you have mentioned above. I can't remember a time when we actually used 3or4 U23 players in a sqaud. Only time will tell. COYR

If we sign a quality (proper quality) central midfielder then I will be happy. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a loan

I can't remember a summer as quiet as this one. Looking at the 21 players who played against York there's no fresh blood. I'm guessing the club's policy is to make do with what they have rather than buying and selling. If they're going to give Mowatt a chance then they must be assuming that if Rotherham can bounce straight back then anyone can.

What we need is someone who is experienced with the high pressing game that can hold the team together and lead them in these early days of the new system

I think we’ll almost certainly see some loan players come in. I feel like with the World Cup now over, the transfers will start to move quickly and it will filter down the leagues.

We really only need a solid midfield player that can win the ball back and boss the middle of the park and another winger would be nice but that's really about it providing we keep hold of what we have already.

Seen an article by Brad Potts. He says the lads are enjoying life under Stendel and
his fellow coaches who are busily assessing which members of the squad suit the
style of play the Head Coach is going to adopt. Says that more players could yet
leave, which hopefully to my mind, could hopefully lead to new players coming in.
My Black Cats supporting brother in law and my Sis are staying at ours for a few days.
Telling me this morning, Sunderland look set to do deals to take Johnstone a reserve keeper currently
at Man Utd, Charlie Wyke of Bradford, Newcastles Ivan Toney and 32 year old Blades
striker Billy Sharp who has been told he's surplus to requirements at Bramall Lane.

Just heard Sheffield Uniteds Ched Evans is poised to join Fleetwood Town.

Doubt we will sing anyone whilst they are on the overseas training camp.

Maybe see a couple come in once they return to the UK. Stendel will have a good idea of what positions need strengthening by then.

We don't need any players, we needed to trim the squad which we have done. This league is proper *****, l think some are building it up too much.

We need a holding midfielder & a bit more pace, either out wide or up front.

We need to shed a few more as well. Agree we don't need to do anything too radical.

All I would say we “need” is a holding/deep/defensive CM. We only have bird who is a kid, with a handful of games for Yeovil to his name. If we don’t address that - no matter how many players we can sell - then something is seriously up. And I am slightly concerned that Isgrove (injured a lot of last year), Hedges and Mottley- Henry are our only wingers. Again, add 1 or being greedy 2 to that and I’d say we have a full squad ready to challenge.

But whatever we have we have, and hopefully make a decent stab of it. It seems very odd that by his own words Gauthier said we had targets for each eventuality. So either we have missed our targets, we didn’t really have any, our targets were only even U23s or (hopefully) we still have those targets and are just closing the deals.
