From my recollection, Peter Ridsdale was said to be the owner of the club. I'm not suggesting he paid off any debts or anything, he didn't, I think we can say that is a fact, but that was how it was explained to us - He owned it.
That's a start. Gordon shepherd: Peter Ridsdale was the chairman and owned the club 100 per cent. Peter did not and does not want to work or operate in a club or company where he had less than 50 per cent of the shares.
Thanks for that, mate. I apologise, Super Tyke. You were right and I was wrong. Interesting to note that Patrick had to save the club from a financial shortfall.
Ridsdale bought the club and put £500k in. Cryne and Barnsley Council bought the land. Cryne paid off the Sterling Consortium to the tune of £5.25 million. Those were loans acquired by Doyle to buy the land and run the club for a year for which he was charged 15% interest. If you plough through the Leeds ***** in this article, the Barnsley bit is at the end. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...ruised-but-unbowed-by-leeds-gamble-94015.html

No its fine, it's actually a perfect example of how our memory of our history has changed over the years. Patrick had to invest because Ridsdale didn't have enough money to pay off the debts but it want a gift or a donation or anything it was an investment which was in return for shares in the company. Simply a much larger individual version of what many fans had done previously
To be honest, I don't think you have to apologise and I don't think Supertyke would require you to. Our history since we went into administration is bizarre and makes no sense. It would make a hell of a book, but sifting through the misinformation that has been released is bewildering.
Exactly no need to apologise at all because our history since the turn of the century has been contradicted so many times that its almost impossible to decipher the truth. I'm not intending to start a debate on this particular issue or to hint at any wrongdoing or criticise at all but you only have to look at James cryne's involvement and the whole spreadsheet thing to see how hard it is to establish what happened with something which was actually quite simple.
I appreciate that, old mate. I felt that it was only right as my comments (once I reread them) appeared somewhat arrogant. It wasn't my intention and I wanted Super Tyke to understand this.
After the success of the 130 celebrations last year, it was felt that bringing legends together on a regular basis was something we should look to do. And so the idea to launch the HOF kicked off. I can't speak for why it wasn't in place already, but I'm chuffed that it is now. Proud of everyone involved, including the shortlist panel who agreed to sift through 130 years of history and then select just 25 names from hundreds and hundreds of top people who represented us with distinction. These individuals are named on the website, there's an article explaining who they are and the reasons they were invited onto the panel as well as the process they undertook. Do I agree with every decision? No. But that's natural. There's a few I'd swap out for others. But perhaps they'll eventually end up shortlisted? I think that's normal. If there's one supporter out there who thinks the 24 names on it are the 24 they'd have picked, I'll be surprised. But aye, I think we did it in a fair fashion and tried covering all eras. As for the initial inductees, that was a club decision made right from the start. We would honour these three men. Preedy - he made us Patrick - he saved us Rimmo - he was us The board vote went to club record appearance holder, club ambassador Barry Murphy. Ronnie Glavin won the panel's vote. Generally seen as our most talented ever player. All in all, a tough process I believe has been a successful one and it's been superb to see the initial reaction to the inception of the HOF. We are now looking forward to seeing who the fans vote for, and of course, putting on an amazing induction ceremony in the presence of some of the true greats. If the only grumbles are relating to opinions on who should or shouldn't be included, I'll take that as a victory. And finally, as stated on the website, the awards evening will see other winners, recognising a variety of BFC related players, teams, staff and supporters. Thanks for your support. You Reds etc.
Apparently James Cryne doesn't pick the team. Well, no one ever thought he did and no one ever made such an accusation, but we got a 20 minute soliloquy, before any question could be asked, telling us all what a load of idiots we are for ever suggesting such rubbish. Consequently, the well researched and astute questions on the subject were made to look like the work of a conspiracy theorist. He was an exceptional public speaker. He really was. And he didn't do it very often, so to have that skill without much practice is amazing really. Other than Kinnock and Thatcher in their pomp, I don't think I've ever heard better. Intelligent and clever and knowledgeable and likeable, it's no surprise he's one of the first 5 to be nominated to the hall of fame, even if I disagree with it down to my bones.
It’s a fantastic idea Whitey and kudos to all involved. And it probably tells you the esteem that people hold it in already that there’s such a passionate debate about one of the 5 initial choices.
