Liverpool sign a keeper for £67 million. They are also.selling their 4th choice keeper (Danny Ward) who played zero games last season to Leicester for £12.5million. Ipswich Town have put a valuation of £8-10 million on their striker Martyn Waghorn.(he once scored 28 goals in a season for Rangers IN THE SCOTTISH 2ND TIER you know (basically playing against teachers postmen and farmers) Blunts buy a centre half from Brentford for £4million.
We also help lower the average by selling our players for peanuts. We’re doing our bit to save the beautiful game
At the other end of the scale, non League Salford City have signed Aberdeen Striker Adam Rooney and are paying him a reported £4K per week. Accrington Stanley's Chairman has entered into a war of words with Gary Neville on Twitter, accusing the Salford Board of trying to buy their way into the EFL, at the expense of Clubs like his own. Accringtons budget for life in League One this season is just over £800,000. Is he right.? Neville doesn't seem to think he is.
Every football club tries to buy success or they wouldn't bring in signings to try and get better. Salford aren't doing anything wrong.
I don't know if there any rules governing spending in relation to income like there are in League 1. If there aren't, you're right, they're not. If there are, it's difficult to understand how they can afford to pay a player 4 grand a week on average attendances of 1,600.
Agree DB. Have to say though on that budget, Accrington will find life very tough in our League. They appear to be very much punching above their weight, but good luck to them anyway. What are their odds to survive in the division, anyone know please.?
I agree with you in that the money being spent in football has reached a ridiculous level. With regards to the Allison fee however a few factors probably raised the expectations of Roma, especially when it came to dealing with Liverpool. Firstly, the Salah fee Liverpool paid last summer in retrospect, when taking into consideration how well Salah performed in 17/18 was way below what they should and could have probably asked for. Roma in my opinion wouldn't have wanted to be stung twice in 12 months over 2 of their star players. Secondly with major doubts over Karius and the almost desperate need for Liverpool to sign a world class keeper, the last one they had in Reina, which was over 5 years ago, surely bumped up the asking price. I would expect Mignolet to move on along with Ward, combined would recoup in the region of £30 million I would imagine, meaning a nett spend of £36 million on Allison, and although still madness, looks a little less damaging to the balance sheet. Like the signing of Van Dijk, who almost single handedly transformed the Liverpool defence from January onwards, I feel the signing of Allison combined with the signings of Keita, Fabinho and Shaqiri could mean Liverpool for the first time in years have a realistic shot at the title. Love them or hate them, the squad that Klopp has now assembled is frightening. The only downside to this for Klopp would be he surely has to start delivering silverware.
On SkyBet they are 4/6 to survive relegation. Incidentally we are 1/100. Don’t really think that’s worth a bet huh?! Accrington 5/1 to finish bottom of the table too. I suppose it will depend on how much momentum they take into this season from last.
On the Adam Rooney thing it's a completely false analogy to compare The National League or Conference or whatever it is to the Scottish Premier League. He's getting 4k a week at Salford (reportedly). That's more than a fair few of ours would have been on last season in the Championship. Salford are clearly splashing the cash to go places in a hurry and at that level of wages will be outspending virtually everybody in their current league but also the vast majority of teams in the two leagues above them.
Salford City FC average home attendance 1,611. Paying £4,000 a week allegedly for one player I'm wondering how the fair play rules come into play, or is that just for league clubs?
Example 38104826 of football gone mad: Richarlison going to Everton for up to £50 million. I hate the transfer market.
Don't think FFP applies in the National League and below. Stand corrected, but does it only apply in the Premier and the Championship, with some form of salary cap being imposed in Leagues One and Two.?
Don't get much for a combined nine goals/assists, mainly in the first half of the season, these days.
You really don’t. I think I read (I could be wrong) that he hasn’t got a goal or assist since November, how could he possibly be valued at that?
#TeamsLikeBrentford. Five years ago Everton bought a centre half from Barnsley for £3 million. #TeamsLikeBarnsley.
http://www.sportbible.com/football/...despite-making-only-three-appearance-20180721 The Danny ward deal has gone through . Liverpool paid 100k six years ago from Wrexham . Wrexham do stand to make a million plus out of the deal due to a % of any future transfer deal . Liverpool have also inserted a similar clause with leicester , 25%.
