My wife and I have literally spent thousands on holidaying abroad and whilst we have
enjoyed every single one, the stand out break for both of us has to be a particular 14 day tour of Scotland.
We had seven days using an 8 berth tent. We booked sites in Gairloch, Inveraray, Drumnadrochit,
Oban, Stirling, Kendal and Knight Stainforth in the Dales on the way back home.
We also enjoyed Bed and breakfast in people's homes in Hawick, Edinburgh, Inverness, Kyleakin,
Portree, Fort William and Stirling. As well as the many historical places of interest we visited, the scenery
we enjoyed was breathtaking. The care and generosity of our Scottish hosts was outstanding and one
aspect we both enjoyed every morning , was the traditional Scots breakfast i.e. Black pudding, baked beans,
mushroom, fried bread, optional fried egg and square sausage. The latter was really tasty. It's apparently made from minced meat, rusk and spices. I was told it's called Lorne and I've scoured every supermarket I know trying to find it, without success. Anyone know who stocks this product in England please.?

I've spent loads of time in Scotland and love the place. The more time I spend here in Dingle the more I love it here too....when it's not raining.
Best holiday ever though has to be South Africa. Cape Town, Hermanus whale watching, safari, the coasts and the mountains. Spectacular. I'd love to go back.

Do you live in Dingle permanently Churton.? My family on my maternal side all originate from Bohola County
Mayo. Down the years, I've promised myself I'd make the trip over to see where my folks came from but have never
got round to it. Now I've got my new hip and once I can walk properly, who knows, I might get to visit Bohola and
spend some time in Dublin as well.

St Lucia. Got married there and honeymoon all in one. Jalousie Plantation. It's called Sugar Beach Resort now between the two pitons. When we left we opted for the little motorboat ride up the coast to the airport. Fantastic experience.

Yes, I moved over last year. I'd thoroughly recommend making the trip. The west coast and especially Connemara is fabulous.

I took 3 months off work in 2007 and took in Japan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and back via Los Angeles. Round the world tour.
Also went on an adventure holiday inside the artic circle, skidooing over frozen lakes, Nordic skiing, dog-sledding and building igloos and (attempting) to sleep in them at -30c! Slept in the ice hotel on that particular holiday but it was only -5c (for wimps). Or swimming on Kho Phi Phi on Christmas day. Yep, I've spent most of my hard-earned on foreign holidays but I probably look back most fondly at childhood holidays in Devon and Jersey when my Dad was still alive.

After a good few years holidaying at Christmas to avoid unwanted invites we ended up going to Berlin for Christmas. Loved it so went back ,and back etc .Ar lass slowly got less able (MS and in a wheelchair) but she wanted to go somewhere else AND see a football match. Sussed it for Fortuna Dusseldorf and had a weekend there....absolutely fantastic. They struggled against relegation for the first couple of years (sound familiar) until last season. They started off well and by the time we saw them in September they were in top spot....it couldn't last.BUT I said to the missus IF they go up I want us to be there(lots of emotion involved) so I booked a long holiday in Germany involving Dusseldorf (last home game)...Frankfurt for a few nights then Nuremberg for the last game .

Having being bossing it for the rest of the season Fortuna ended up clinching promotion the week before we went with a last minute winner v Dresden.

1 week later v Kiel we drew 1-1 but the atmosphere among the 50 thousand was brilliant...we also met loads of people who we had previously only known on the internet and we had a great time with them.

Fast forward a week to Nuremberg....met loads again+ more new people (and plenty of people we already new from Dusseldorf).

Had loads to drink (lubricate the tonsils)...got to the ground....picked up our tickets (5 Euro between us) then saw Fortuna go 2 down inside 15 minutes.

Nuremberg needed at least a draw to win the 2nd division title and we needed a win (they had overtaken us the weekend before but both promoted)

93rd minute winner for Fortuna...title in the bag and all my plans went better than could ever have been predicted.

Met loads of brilliant people and won the title after booking hopefully 6 months previously ....best holiday ever just to see the smile on ar lasses face when we won the title !!!!

Cheers Sparky. My wife was in Aldi today and picked some Lorne up for me.
I'm told, some branches of Tesco also stock it. Looking forward to enjoying some
for tea. It will revive the times we have spent North of the border.

And YES we did invade the pitch....we were encouraged to by the stewards.

Drink at your seat, standing sections, affordable prices, fun encouraged, in ground prices similar those outside, great all game atmosphere....everyone that loves football should try it....can't wait till we go again !

Didn't say that Nudger. The scenery and places of interest e.g Edinburgh Tattoo Culloden, Skye, Whisky Distillery and jail
at Inverary, Wallace monument and Castle at Stirling etc. we're the most memorable moments. As part of the whole experience, we enjoyed the breakfasts which comprised black pudding and Lorne ( Scottish sausage) and I was asking board members if they knew where I could buy it in England as it's very tasty and I wouldn't mind buying some. Can't see what the relevance of coming from Donny has anything to do with it to be honest.

Was there the final weekend but went to watch Bayer Leverkusen v Hanover on the Saturday then fortuna second team v rot Weiss Essen on the Sunday. Wonderful place dorf been before when watching England in gelsenkirchen and Dortmund so was a bit familiar. A few of us are planning to go over next year for the final game of the season coincidentally against Hanover. Any tips on buying tickets etc would be appreciated.

Also hoping for that game, depending on plans there could be a few of us over again. As for tickets you should be OK when they go on general sale as even the 1st game back in the top flight has plenty of tickets left.https://shop.f95.de/f95/ajax.aspx/Home.html 50 odd thousand seats take some filling. Just register with the site and you can see the availability.

If anything is riding on it (avoiding relegation/winning the title....the first one being more probable) then they are harder to get but even the last game this year with promotion due it only sold out a few weeks before the game (even though on sale from January). If you want to go and are struggling then we know a few members who may be able to help (we are in the wheelchair sector so get them direct through that rep).

We are going in October v Wolfsburg, Sept away at Nuremberg plus any more we can afford and can get tickets for.

    ENJOY!!!!

In 2009 we went up to the Scottish Highlands celebrating our silver wedding anniversary, in the same area we'd visited for our honeymoon. Only this time we had our two kids and two dogs in tow!:D We rented an old crofter's cottage on the side of a mountain, overlooking Loch Ness. The weather that week was glorious. On our actual anniversary, we booked a meal at the Loch Ness Lodge Hotel in Drumnadrochit, where we'd spent our honeymoon. On arriving, we were shocked and surprised to find a bottle of champagne awaiting us at our specially laid out table, on the house.
The area from Inverness to Drumnadrochit, Lewiston, Invermoriston and Fort Augustus is my favourite. I love the spectacular scenery and the friendliness of the locals.

I was in Toronto a couple of years ago. Fantastic place. Did the sights. Went up the tower. Did a baseball game. Niagra falls was awesome. Then the last night of my holiday I was lucky enough to see Rush in concert at the ACC. That just topped off a fantastic 2 weeks.

I was lucky as a kid (I’m 42 now) we could always afford a foreign holiday every year so visited various Greek islands, France, Portugal etc, as an adult I’ve managed a few trips to various places in the states including orlando and other typical European beach holiday destinations, but as a youngster as well as the summer foreign holiday we also always went to Newquay at spring bank, and these holidays are the ones I remember most fondly, pitch and putt, Newquay park, go karts at Holywell bay and the beach if we were lucky enough for any sun. We went to a hotel called the Mount Wise, and the same guests would be there every year, it was like a home from home. Good times.

I agree Lil the scenery in the Highlands is breathtaking. First time I ever visited Scotland was as part of a military force involved in midnight excercises in and around the Glen Nevis area. We were transported in at the dead of night and proceeded to spend three nights under canvas. First job was to excavate the ground to build our latrine and bury the meat we were going to eat in mutton cloth. I was part of a Bren Gun unit stationed north of Fort William. We were told our allies
included the Seaforth Highlanders, K.O.Y.L. I , 2nd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment , Tank Corp and Queens Own Ghurka Rifles. We were up against some USA Special Forces/ Rangers. The news came through that after about seven hours, a patrol from the Ghurkas had located the Yanks and as they'd not posted any guards, they had been able to infiltrate their Camp and capture their entire regiment. Our CO allowed us visit places of interest in and around the Highlands.
We were also given leave and some of us undertook a trip to Iona, including being taken into Fingals Cave and on one particular day , we walked the path to the summit of Ben Nevis. That visit formed a lasting impression and made me determined to go back and visit some of the other beautiful places I had missed first time round. It truly is one of the finest
    areas I have ever visited.

I've been very lucky to have many special moments in a range of places, so I happily flit around them, and don't tend to structure them around one holiday or break.

If I was to think of one period of time away where there were the most memories, it's probably recently (last September) visiting parts of Indonesia. I don't think i've been anywhere thats provoked so many different emotions and thoughts and had moments of true wonder. The worst part was the most beaten track of southern Bali, and frankly, you couldn't pay me to go back to Nusa Dua. Its ruined. Completely ruined by huge faceless hotel monstrosities with insane gated security.

But visit the north, the jungle, the waterfalls, the lakes and the incredible rice fields. See as much nature as you can. Spend time in Ubud and visit some of the Hindu temples. But the most memorable moments were at Borobudur on Java, a buddhist temple in the middle of nowhere surrounded by jungle and volcanic mountains. Sat atop of it at 4:30am with about 100 people waiting for the sun to rise. Cockerels crowing in the distance as the sun slowly started to rise and the darkness of hundreds of bell shaped statues started to lighten.

The crazy bustling city of Jogjakarta, the ancient hindu temples of Prambanan and the local families who wanted pictures with the rare sight of white people. Then the relatively unspoilt island of Lombok and the fantastically friendly people hungry to learn more about the west, topped off with a sea view witnessing Mount agung rumbling away back on Bali.

I've had the privilege of many wonderful sights and experiences from Halong Bay in Vietnam to the Treasury of Petra in Jordan, but I think Indonesia is most memorable and interesting for many many reasons.
