Looks like that big repaving project undertaken only a few years ago has failed to stand the test of time. Apparently they chose cheaper alternative materials from China, I guess you get what you pay for. Makes you wonder who's approving materials for the library new build / metropolitan Centre refurb and will they last a prolonged period. https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/revamp-materials-fail-to-stand-test-of-time
Have you seen the state of them at the bottom of Market Hill? They need a good jet wash, along with the bus station and the rest of the town centre.
Apologies, should have said that it's not in the article but was mentioned by a couple of people on the Facebook page.
Theyll say anything to badmouth the council on FB. Yes the council is a waste of space sometimes but half the things people complain about on there is too daft to laugh at tbh
Can’t comment on the materials as don’t know spec, but when they were first laid on Eldon street it looked good, within about a month it looked a disgrace due to them being covered in black marks, spat out chewing gum that then attracts all the dirt, whatever is done will look a mess ultimately as too many people don’t give a toss about the area they are walking in. I reckon they could pave the streets in gold and within a few weeks It would just look scruffy. Shame.
Should always go for the best re- Marshall of Southowram Halifax. Not cheap, but certainly stands the test of time. If not allowed to cure properly outside, the slabs go green in the middle. I once got the chance to have a look round their works. Amazed to see that some of the products are hand riven by a line of masons each with a chisel and a mallet. They appear to hit every slab in exactly the same place, so that when you compare one slab to the other, they appear to be identical. Have to say, I was greatly impressed with the skill of the operatives and the finished product.
The works were outsourced to a company from the midlands. Bmbc decimated their highways dept about 10 years ago after a long winded consultation period. And a close escape by the bloke the council employed to provide the consulting.
