And we haven't looked outclassed. Couple of moments of madness at the back aside, we could well be on level terms or even ahead. That said, it seemed to me like we were taking it a bit more seriously than them. Reckon they've got a few more gears to move through, and I'm not sure I'd say the same of us.
I was very impressed with what I saw in the 2nd half against a good Baggies team. Thought we looked sharp, confident and well drilled. The pressing was very good and although we lacked a final ball I'd say most of the teams we'll play will struggle to cope with the pace and pressing. Good to see Moncur and Mowett playing some good stuff. Looked a bit open to the counter at times but promising stuff.
All of our players look comfortable on the ball. They can receive the ball and play a pass - *if* they are given lots and lots of time. West Brom showed us how to press tonight and so Jack Walton was seeing more of the ball at his feet than he should have. West Brom were just quicker in the brain - they made us look a bit casual. If you are prone to the odd lapse of concentration there's no point in trying to make 15 passes inside your own third of the pitch. We always looked like there was a self-inflicted disaster about to happen. The aim is to concede zero goals. Play percentages. Just hoof it.
So we've peed yet another match away have we in typical fashion ?!. To be honest I like the fact that this was taken seriously though, it sounded like it was two decent teams who wanted to play and score, rather than just treat it like a glorified kickabout. If we can learn more from these sort of matches then Id rather see more of them than pointless easy wins over little non league teams (like Emley, Frickley, Athersley, Weston Super Mare, & Gainsbrough etc) . I hope we take the Hull game as seriously, and this is regardless of the result.
Def more good than bad from the match. Though we looked dangerous and were the best team for more than half the game... Walton gave them a few chances through distribution errors but that's the sort of stuff that can be fixed
Im pleased to hear that Benny and it seems like Daz Moore showed us some respect as well by playing a strong team of his own. We surely won't meet many teams in Lg One who are as clever and as experienced as this West Brom team, and remember of course they're only just out of the Premship. As Ive also said elsewhere, Id rather see McCarthy play than Cavare. But Im also pleased at the effort it sounds like most of our lot were putting in, especially Mowatt!.
