Keeper would be just after defensive midfielder for me wether that be backup or ahead of Davies but I'm just a spectator it's all down to how zee main man sees it.
Man walks into a doctors with a steering wheel down his pants, the doctor says "what happened", man says "I dont know but its driving me nuts"
Going from a championship back up, to having to try and earn a contract with just a trial with a non league club will probably be a culture shock for him. Be interesting to see if he's offered a deal there.
Jackson gave away the Pen against Villa, as for the costing us goals I've asked numerous people to tell me how many goals they can name that he made a mistake for that cost us points, as far as I can remember its 2 games, QPR at home he cost us the win and Fulham at home he cost us a point. Davies is a confidence player, on form he's great out of form he flaps like a baby bird but slagging him off constantly with little to no actual evidence that just "He in net, we concede, it his fault" isn't really gonna make him have the most faith in himself, as for Walton being his number 2, he's young and he hasn't really had the chance to prove himself so there's no point screaming we need a new keeper (I know you haven't been doing that just a rant at some people).
Signing 16 new players who were all young with little / no championship experience in one summer after losing 8 of your first 11 inside of a year was the biggest factor in us been relegated. The second biggest factor in my opinion was injuries, we were unable to keep a settled back 4 up to January. Yiadom, Cavare, Jackson, Pinnock, Isgrove, Hedges & Gardner all missed large chunks of the season Third biggest factor for me was appointing Jose Morais, I don’t think he’d have ever made a good manager but he was never going to be a success joining in the middle of the season with no transfer window or time to implement his ideas. Fourth biggest factor for me was for whatever reason not getting the McBurnie done in August & not been able to play with two forwards until January. Blaming it on the form of individual players is way down the list of issues for me.
Most players don’t make the difference between victory and defeat but keepers do. Davies individual errors cost us more than enough points to stay up. I hope he got a pay cut.
If you saw some of Walton’s play last night, embarrassing. I cannot remember a professional keeper trying to roll the ball out and throwing it straight in the air. My sons team 12 yr old keeper would have been ashamed.
And (IMO) that was probably the main reason we went down. We had maybe the best striker in the championship, but played him as a winger who was expected to run back and defend. McBurnie should have been up front with Moore to do what he is good at - scoring goals. Too late now I know but it used to make my blood boil every game...
My bad it was Davies who ****** up for the 1st when he came out to collect the ball and went through his body leaving adhomah with a open goal so embarrassing adhomah hardly celebrated. I thought it was him and Davies who played a part in the pen I could be wrong. Bristol at home cost us a win reading at home he was rooted to his line and pinnock scored last min to get us a point. I agree he is a confidence player and like I said it's upto the new gaffer if he rates him.
I agree with some of your points they is also other factors as to why we went down. But the individual player we are talking about should of been replaced when his confidence dipped. I made my mind up in 2015 that Townsend wasn't good enough to be league one back up so why did we not get shut last summer and get a half decent back up keeper in? Instead we just kept playing Davies and expecting a diffrent out come. Like said on here the fact Townsend has had non league trials speaks volumes
This is the same team that we expect to get us back into championship What is blatantly obvious, is that our chief executive and owners have not as yet put a bean into any players right back to buying the club To be honest I am still not certain why they bought us. I have my own ideas and they reason they did was not football related. There track record of how they have handled BFC is not brilliant at all They were the reason Morais arrived and that just shows what they know about football Hope this new manager can turn it round, but in English football his ideas may bite him on his backside We will see when we get half way
Being a pedant, so apologies.... "should have" not of. Agree about Townsend, a very poor keeper, and not surprised to see him struggling to find a club. I've still no idea why we signed him permanently so quickly after his loan spell. Was all very odd.
Yes thanks for the correction it's no good having a very poor goalkeeper in the championship because if your 1st choice goalkeeper gets injured or form dips like Davies did you are left with your very poor one. Should HAVE been replaced last summer and don't get me started on the captain/vice captain for Davies... why? Hopefully he gets his confidence back under the new head coach and has a good season time will tell
I like Davies, a really decent lad, but he seems very timid, whether interviews or just his general body language. After losing just about all our promotion side in a year, there really wasn't much to pick a captain and vice captain from, so I fear he and Angus got the respective jobs by default. If we're going to sign anyone, i'd be signing someone who is a natural leader and could be captain.
I agree he should’ve been replaced but the turnover of players, the long list of injuries compared to the season previous, Morais & McBurnie were far bigger issues for me. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Davies’ form dipped after lots of changes to the back 4
