I imagine that contract information is referring to his current one at Sparta, they’ll have just not changed it yet as they’ll be waiting for confirmation of him signing and finding out his contract length etc.
Ahhh, the old "he's bound to be crap but if he's not we'll sell him for peanuts in January" scenario.
A German head coach signing a Aussie. If it works half as well as the Wagner/Mooy combination for Huddersfield it will do for me.
He’s played at a very decent level - 30 odd times in Dutch top division. Seems like he can play CB as well, so perhaps he is the defence minded CM we need. Good luck to the lad if he is signing. Sounds promising to me
I won’t pretend that I’ve ever heard of Dougall but 29 appearances in the Eredivisie is encouraging although it’s fair to say that the standard in the Eredivisie goes from Premier League to League 1 depending on the fixture. It’ll be interesting to see what Stendel does regarding the remaining midfielders if we do bring in Dougall as suddenly we’ll have Bird, Dougall, McGeehan, Potts, Mowatt and Moncur all competing for 2 or 3 central positions which is probably at least 1 too many.
When he does sign, Dougall as the only out and out defensive midfielder we have will probably start so that leaves, 5 players competing for 1/2 spots, if Potts is sold then that problem disappears, but I could see Bird being loaned out as well.
Imagine Dougall and Bird will be the DMs, then Potts, Moncur and McGeehan will be fighting it out for the 2 CM roles. Mowatts the one I’m not sure about. Looked much improved in that friendly, and was playing deeper so perhaps he would cover both positions when needed. We need depth for the number of games. If we had 2 or 3 injuries/suspensions we would be down to bare bones. Reckon there is a place for all of them in the squad.
It all depends on what formation we play, if we go for 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3 then with Dougall we should be good for centre mids, if we go for a 4-4-2 i think we could be a little heavy and we all saw the problem with having too many midfielders doing the same thing under both LJ and Hecky.
I think we’re at least one too heavy regardless. Having three or four central midfielders on a seven man bench is far too many and if they’re not in the squad then presumably it’s a waste of a wage and/or stifling a player’s development.
End of the day, its all up to the manager but at least the new lad gives us something different to what we already have, if we had signed a 5th attacking midfielder I'd have been properly confused, especially after getting rid of Mallan.
Theres been no bids for potts, just a enquiry from sunderland. Stendel has been prepping cam mgheehan to play holding midfield role
