It’s in a warehouse so it’s out of bounds.
I know people working on the film set that’s why I was able to have a look.

FFS get over Maggie Thatcher. That was history. Do something to help yourself - I hear ASOS are recruiting.

But what’s the point in holding grudges after all this time? It’s only going to make you more miserable. Sometimes you just have to let go of the past to move on & progress in life. I’m from Thurnscoe and some of my family were miners, so I know what damage it did but there’s never gonna be any justice after all this time, so people need to just let it go and stop dwelling on the dark past.

Oh well in that case all is forgiven when is the Maggie statue going up?

She played a big part in the decimation of this towns and many other towns industry. She played a big part in Orgreave and she played a big part in Hillsborough. All these things happened with 10 mile of us and we’re just expected to let it go?

Where’s the justice for any of those I’ve just mentioned? A big part of letting go is seeing justice is done and there’s been nobody held accountable.

This town celebrated when she died and if by some dark magic she was resurrected we’d be counting down the seconds until she died again so we can have another celebration.

It’s nowt to do wi Thatcher this thread.
It’s about a film being filmed in Goldthorpe which is great for Barnsley because who would have thought only a few years ago that these sort of things could happen.

But since Thatcher has been mentioned - it cannot be forgotten for those that lived through it.
When the country you live in and love turns against you - when you experience the state turning against you and your community for 12 long months then how can anyone forget that ???
    It will never be forgotten.

Having a mock funeral in the village following her death was good for the community I guess.

This is it though, such were the then vindictive actions and the continuous inactions of Govts. that many local people can’t move on and progress in life, because there’s little else to move on to. Only EU funding such as the coalfields regeneration has had any sort of impact on places like the Dearne Valley, and then much of the employment created (as welcome as it is) is more short- termism and very much open to exploitation such as zero hours contracts. Whilst there is an undoubted swing to the right of politics, people need to remember particularly at election time how the right of politics has already negatively and vindictively impacted Towns like Barnsley and it’s surrounding areas. Remembering is not dwelling on negativity, indeed, it’s one of the most useful tools which you hold that you can use in life.
