How big a percentage of his future transfer fee did we get as part of the deal?

Was it reduced by Swansea’s relegation?

If it’s 15% of their profit, and they get £25million, what did they pay for him? Should get in excess of £3million as I can’t see it being more than £5million they paid.

    Anyone in the know?

I think that any sell on that we've got coming to us will have a percentage that will be due to Brentford also as they have a sell on clause due to his transfer to us.

    No relegation clause.

    15% of any profit.

Brentford received something when we sold him to Swansea.

Brentford would have received a cut when we sold him, but they would also be entitled to a cut of any future fees that we receive for him.

No they wouldn't. Future deals don't involve them. Clubs don't get sell on fees for the entire career of a player.

Yes. They do. Any money we (Barnsley) make on Mawson then Brentford receive a percentage of that.

A sell on clause is a clause for when you sell on a player to another team. I don't see how that would be the case.

Simple... because we're still receiving fees from a sell on, so its money we've received. Once Swansea sell him, unless they have a sell on clause, that's it. But if Swansea had a sell on, we'd get 15% of that, and Brentford would get whatever from that too. The clause is on fees received, not on upfront transfer fee.

A sell-on clause can stipulate all future income generated from a player. We did this with Stones. If Everton included a sell on fee with Man City and gerenated revenue from a future sale of Stones we would be entitled to our slice of that revenue.

    Thanks all.

So to sum up the consensus is that we’ll get 15% of Swansea’s profit, which seems likely to be £20million ish, so we get £3million.

We also would then pay Brentford their share, perhaps 15%, so £450k.

We still look likely to clear £2.5million? Can’t be bad.

Barnsley paid Brentford there sell on fee when we sold mawson to Swansea. So what ever we get from swansea selling Mawson is all Barnsley cos Brentford’s already had there’s

Brentford get a share of all our profit, not just the initial fee, so I’d say they will get their bit.

Similarly if Man City sold John Stones to Barcelona or wherever, If Everton have an interest in the sell on, we’d get our share of that too.

There are some really thick people on here struggling to comprehend that Brentford would get a share of any profit we make on Mawson. I bet those same people voted for Brexit.

I look forward to us banking millions when Stones is sold to PSG or Real Madrid for over hundred million then.
