......... after the arrival of Stendel - where are the young talented continental players that many of us thought would also be arriving ?!?!? So far these new extremely wealthy board members have put absolutely NOTHING into the club. So far it’s been a very disappointing show from them.
Nudge, have you forgotten or sumat that we are now in division 1 and players from the Premier or the Championship are not going to come here no matter how wealthy the board may be.
So you're still completely ignorant to the fact that someone can't just pump millions into a club anymore? The new owners have done exactly what they said they would.
At no point did I or quite a few other posters think this. Just because you thought it, and have posted it about seventy times, doesn’t mean we all thought it nor that it was ever likely to happen. If we don’t lose anybody our squad is right up there - why do we need ‘young, talented continental players’? Would they cope with the physicality of English football right away? I’d sooner go in to games with players such as McGeehan and Mowatt than with another Knasmullner. Even if these young kids you crave could cope with league one, there’s no guarantee they’d like it in England and settle here. It’d be a big risk, one that at the moment there’s no desperate need to take. We may well bring more in, they may well be young and from continental Europe, but expecting them to do so - and suggesting that this is definitely necessary - is wide of the mark. If Stendel is happy with his lot, then good. Hopefully keep everybody. Pocket a few quid from the Mawson and Jackson sell on’s, and be ready for January if we need to strengthen.
I never heard them say ........ now we have taken over at Barnsley we are going to do absolutely NOWT. What I did hear them say is that they are going to follow similar lines on how the club has been run recently by bringing in young players and developing them. As I write - that hasn’t happened.
They’ve spent more on the stadium than has been spent in the last 5-10 years combined probably. They’ve invested in the academy and broader facilities to a substantial extent. They haven’t sold off the family silver to the first bidder and have so far retained all the first team squad who were under contract this summer despite bids for two or three players from teams in higher leagues. But because they haven’t gone out and done what you assumed they would and bought some European kids, they’ve done nothing. Right oh.
Exactly. "Modest investment" is what was said in the very first press conference. They're not going to spend for the sake of spending, just to please our fans.
If they'd spent a quid they would have done that. What have they spent on the stadium - genuine question not a dig.
Didn’t we sign about 6 or 7 players for the U23s a few weeks ago, Isn’t that bringing players in and developing them?
I thought there were some new signings in the U23, and I believe there have been a number of trialists, maybe some more tonight. To me that means they have invested in youth and we have promoted some of last years U23's into the first team squad, time will tell if they are successful or not
