Wow, the lads have not even kicked a ball yet in this league and they have already been written off and ridiculed. I wasn’t too impressed by the way we gave in easily during games last season, but what I do know is that I for one will be encouraging and cheering them on this Saturday!
Jesus Christ. So you have agreed that they gave in last season but you've to come the conclusion that they've been ridiculed. Incredible.
See the second half of my paragraph. People have every right to be critical of anything... but doing it 24/7 without respite makes you come across as nothing more than a troll.
We brought in too many players last summer & the wrong mix. Also too many were all expected to step up together. The managerial / ownership situation didn't help our cause. This season the players are at a level that they should excel at, they have been together as a group for a year & we have a promising new manager & the ownership situation is settled. I think there are grounds for optimism. Window hasn't closed yet either.
What I said was that they gave in at times last season. I do not need to come to the conclusion that they have been continuously ridiculed, I can read that in all of your posts. No matter what walk of life or how much people get paid, they all have crap days at work, either through their own ineptitude or bad management: I think last year came down to the latter! What I do know about management, and having been one for the last 25 years, is that in order to get the best out of your people you encourage, train and motivate, all opposite to your views and opinions!
Morais has to take a big share of the blame, he was a total disaster and completely unfit for the job but Conan is right that some of our performances under Morais (Leeds away, Reading away, Forest away, Derby away, Millwall home off the top of my head) were abject and spineless and the players have to be held accountable, in part, for these results that contributed significantly to our relegation. It is a new season though and I'm pretty confident that it's going to be a good one.
They have not been ridiculed - they have been justifiably criticised. Don't know where you're going with that last sentence. This a forum for supporters to air their views. It's not intended for players to even read ne'mind encourage, train or motivate.
For once, and probably for the only time, I agree with Conan. My approach to this season will be to try to leave him alone with his negativity, which he's perfectly entitled to. I now treat his posts like do with spots - leave them to run their course, the more you pick them, the worse they get.
Morais was, in my opinion, the worst manager in our history. Just appalling. However, I don't believe Heckingbottom was anywhere close to being that. I think he is an exceptional coach, particularly at turning potential into quality. The improvement we saw in some players under his tutelage was amazing. I don't particularly like him, but I can recognise what he did despite that. Yet he was struggling to get anything out of the players too. It's more or less universally acknowledged that the appointment of Morais was a huge mistake. That he was garbage. This is used, as it has been here, to argue that actually we've got a decent squad, it was all the manager's fault. Thing is, anyone who made the claim at the time, was rounded upon, like conan has been here. Little or no debate about the issue at hand, just insults directed at the poster. And here we go again.
Ridiculed or criticised, we are going to have to agree to disagree. As for my last sentence, I was trying to say that perhaps your ridiculing or criticism of the team probably continues at the ground and therefore has an affect on the players and team performance. I will leave it there as I want to ensure I enjoy the game tomorrow and the weekend in general.
You say realism, I say pessimism. Realism would be acknowledging we've got a different coach and we're in a different league now, so what will happen is a complete unknown. I'll reserve my judgement until I've seen them play. That's my kind of realism.
