Of all the positions, it’s the one we generally tend to struggle with, I can’t remember a LB since Barnard (I know he played Left wing back) who’s been rated by the majority and has also held down the spot for more than 2/3 years. Even the current crop of left backs no one is sold on. Who does everyone think is the best left back they’ve seen play for us and does anyone want us to sign anyone to fill that position if Fryers and Pinillos fail to impress.

Erm… you're forgetting the legend that was... Tom Kennedy ;-)

I liked Paul Cross personally, but was never the same after his terrible injury.

Golbourne was decent for a short time and Yiadom was brilliant the year before last. We definitely need to sign someone for left back because the two we have are dogger

Wonder if McCarthy is worth a punt on that side if Stendel likes Cavare as RB?

Stuart Gray , Neil Thompson , John Beresford were all good , however if you are looking for a player to hold down a position for two or three seasons you might need good glasses , as apart from goalkeepers , outfield players in the modern game seem to move on regularly , probably something to do with agents.

John Beresford and prior to that the somewhat bizarely maligned Phil Chambers. I feel Fryers has the ability but his progress seems to be constantly interrupted by injury.

Scott Golbourne is available on a free.

I’d have him back. Miles better than what we have now.

My all-time favourite left back is Dave Booth.

I think the position of left back ,in the dressing room at least, has never been a problem

Chris Barker is the best we've had since Barnard. Aidy White was a good player but way too injury prone, Yiadom and George Williams both performed very well but are right backs really.

First one I remember and with nostalgia goggles on he was pretty good. I thought Chambers was pretty decent too

Never had a problem with Chambers. To me, I always thought he was a steady, 7 out of 10 player who never let us down. Unfortunately, he was a victim of an incessant level of vitriolic abuse from some. These fans didn't care that excellent managers such as Allan Clarke & Norman Hunter thought him good enough to be our regular left back and make him team captain. He couldn't do anything right as far as they were concerned and wouldn't entertain anyone's opinion if it contradicted theirs.

I like McCarthy but don't think he'd have the ability to play left back. Yiadom worked because he was very comfortable on the ball.
