From what I've heard Australia was just a holiday.

But what can be wrong with a player enjoying the hard earned adulation and adoration of the crowd?
Remember he had to earn it having come back to us at his lowest ebb for that second spell.
And goodness how he earned it. Week in, week out, not just in the promotion season when he was utterly outstanding, but back in the Campionship where he showed his loyalty, signing that early deal as others looked and went elsewhere for the money.
And then giving everything and more for the team effort, adding a battling never say die side to his natural skill and talent, ridiculously cast aside by Morais with disastrous consequences.
I was sorry to hear he was looking abroad, Australia it seemed at one point, but could understand it for family/financial reasons, given the stage he is at in his career.
But if that is not to be and if Adam Hammill is still looking for a club then that club should be Barnsley where I would expect to see him making a telling contribution, adding his skill, experience and determination to a squad crying out for more wing options.
He’s just the wrong side of 30 so could be bringing joy to the Ponty for years to come, save for the odd couple of churls who would rather seek to besmirch his hard earned, well deserved legend status.
But as has been established within this thread, it is clear that their voices would be lost within the rapture of his return.

A work colleague who lives near Adam said the management team were at his house a couple of sundays ago that he still wants to stay. Given that it’s now a few weeks later it’s looking unlikely I’d say. Would still be one of the best players in the league. Had offers from oz and USA but length of contracts offered not worth uprooting kids for. Same for a couple of southern clubs in England.

If he came nowhere near the club that would make him like you.

I wonder how he'd manage to secure visas given his conviction? I always thought it was a massive barrier for Australia and US?

Not sure. The bloke not a Barnsley fan but a fairly serious guy seemed to know a fair amount of detail and definitely lives very close to Adam so I’m assuming what he says is right. Apparently Thiam winds everyone up with his noisy flashy motor.

    Haha brilliant.

Had a bit more of a read into aussie visas. Can't see that it would be a problem... looks like it has to be more substantial record and a likely chance of reoffending.

From what i've read about US visas it looks highly unlikely he'd secure one. I knew they were strict beforehand, particularly with mental health as from working on wards I knew if you'd had been sectioned you wouldnt be able to even go on a tourist visa!

Not sure it got that far the offer was for a year apparently as I say all second hand so you never know how true but seemed on the ball.

Teams could offer on proviso of securing permit i'd have thought so i wouldn't doubt it being untrue. Hopefully he'll be sticking around anyway! :)

Yes hopefully. There’s a sticking point around paying for coaching badges or there was.

At his age not many clubs will be offering a long contract. Thats football. Taking a salary drop for a new contract in L1 isn't unusual and thats football. Sometimes players get a longer contract and lower salary in situations like his. Its clear however he has his sights set on a bigger salary and / or longer contract both seem to not suit the club. Players move on, teams get rebuilt, new hero's for the kids etc, thats football. He has been a great player and contributed a lot over the past few years. But if the plans for him and for us don't fit, time to move on and not waste time or be distracted trying.

Rotherham, 1 year contract could be a good fit for both.

If Adam is a good influence with the rest of the squad then there is a place for him, we don't have to be ruthless and cut him out because he's over 25 there is a place for sentiment and a place in our squad. At the end of the game I looked around to see who would come up to the crowd and take Hammills mantel and no one did, this relationship with the crowd is important and I would love to see him back.

    Let’s hope he re-signs

He would be a good edition to the squad - I think he could convert to a central midfield role

i saw several players communicating and connecting with fans at the end including Kieffer giving his shirt to a kid. It seems there was a place for him, sentimental or not, but seems both couldn't agree what that was worth.

I'm not bothered about him coming back, but comparing him in the championship to league one where he was superb isn't fair. He hasn't pulled up any trees for anyone in the championship but is a top league one player.

He did with us during his first loan and permanent spell. I do agree that his championship days (as a winger) are probably behind him but he'd still be quality at league one level.

No, you're quite right mate, he did play well for us when he first came.
