Certainly looks to be a good acquisition. Given his importance to the team I wonder who would fill in should he get injured or suspended. Hopefully they are working on a McGeehan and Bird to ensure we have suitable cover. I would love us to go back in for Joe Williams on a permenant. He’s no where near the Everton first team and won’t develop in the U23s. If we could get him for a decent fee then he could be worth fortunes in 2 or 3 years.
Oh hell no. That lad stifled everything in midfield. Why go forwards when a backwards pass will do. I'd rather they give James Cryne a cracks in midfield than bring the crab back.
He was a 19 year old lad thrown into the most important role for a team, in the championship. How he is coached and developed is key to how he played. He has a lot of potential. Agree he would need to be coached and instructed to pass forwards. Would learn a lot from KD on early viewing.
Loads of players have a lot of potential though. If Williams was from a lower league team I believe he would have been regarded in the same way that the likes of Bailey and Berry but his premiership status gave him extra credit which IMO was not deserved from performances on the pitch. Just my opinion of course
Someone was asking "what have the new owners done/spent?" A few days ago. Kenny is proof that it's not how much cash you splash but what you get for your money. On yesterday's showing he is a top player and a very shrewd bit of business by the board.
Fair enough. And he also drove me mad at times, but for his first season as a professional I thought he did enough to show he has the makings of a great player (in my opinion). Remember Ben Pearson being similar, but not as good, when he was here. And he’s now developed into a very good player. The defensive/holding midfield role is probably one of the hardest to master given it gives the whole team the tempo to play at. Thought Mowatt and KD were both excellent yesterday. I really like the look of Matty Woolfe in the academy from the few times I’ve seen him play. Perhaps he will develop and break into the squad this year.
Would love them to pull a couple more rabbits out of the hat like KD. Completely off the radar players undervalued within their own leagues. Think that was the whole philosophy of what the owners were looking for when talking about Moneyball. A winger and a striker to add to our options. Perhaps a goalkeeper who will really push Davies (and let Jacob walton go and be a starter at a L2 or National League team for a year would be marvellous too.
January will be their next opportunity. We'll know what we need and I'm sure these guys will go and get it.
