OK so decided to take the plunge and take out the year which EFL link to Barnsley website "how much does it cost?... " The website states “New International subscribers will pay £110 per year” but when I try to subscribe it only shows 130 euros which even at the current low exchange rate is £116.00. Another EFL page states ...good news - improved service blah blah bla!! prices frozen for this year at £110! Can't seem to change to pounds and I want to use my debit or credit card from my UK bank account. Anyone subscribing from abroad had this problem and know how to get round it? I've emailed BFC media.
Mine was on automatic renewal. Didn't even realise until I went to subscribe and it had been activated 4 weeks ago. Looked on my statement and yeah... 130 Euros.
my chat conversation (ongoing) "You will not be able to purchase with your UK bank account and billing address International subscribers will have to use International bank and billing address to subscurbe subscribe* Amdad I am trying to subscribe to iFollow (I live in Italy) The website states “New International subscribers will pay £110 per year” but when I try to subscribe it only shows 130 euros which even at the current low exchange rate is £116.00. So how can it be £110 for overseas subscribers then as adevrtised? Me That's the price in Euro's Amdad So the website is misrepresentation then since you state overseas subscribers pay £110 but you actually cant! Me Unfortunately, that's the price Amdad HHmmm I am afraid your website in the UK is therefore breaking the law. I suggest you speak to your line manager as there could be legal repercussions
Also their own T &C states... 4.5. All payments must be in UK pounds sterling, unless we have expressly set out an alternative currency by which you may pay in the order process or any renewal notice. We cannot accept payment in currencies other than those expressly noted at the time you submit your order or in any subsequent renewal notice. (note the MUST - sterling and "MAY pay" re other currencies.) I think an email to the EFL is in order here!)
OK complete transcript of my conversation with EFL chat on this... Trying to subscribe to iFollow from Italy. Website states new subscribers pay £110 for season but 'Subscribe' form only shows 130 euros (which is actually £116 at current rates. Also I want to pay in pounds from my UK account via debit/credit card as my pension (UK) is paid in there .How can I get it to show pounds? Me Hi You will not be able to purchase with your UK bank account and billing address International subscribers will have to use International bank and billing address to subscurbe subscribe* Amdad I am trying to subscribe to iFollow (I live in Italy) The website states “New International subscribers will pay £110 per year” but when I try to subscribe it only shows 130 euros which even at the current low exchange rate is £116.00. Furthermore it does not mitigate stating overseas subscribers only pay £110 when according to you, they cannot. I say again it is clear misrepresentation on your website. . Me I will raise this with the web developers and managers. However, this is the price for your location and you will need international bank details Amdad OK I appreciate this is not your fault. I will escalate to your legal department. It is not about the money £6 is neither here not there but as I say, legally, you are on very shaky ground . ****** I know if a retailer incorrectly puts a price for something in error on the website that cannot be reasonable e.g. a ride on mower for 150£ rather than £1500 they are not obliges to honour it. However, where the incorrect price could be regarded as reasonable as is here, then the company may be liable once the contract is complete (as in your case). I suggest you email a complaint to EFL iFollow complaints (see Official website iFollow for the complaints email address). This needs putting right before too many people pay more than they should.
A lot of hassle for the sake of 6 quid. It's quite common online for different currencies to pay different prices. Take the Apple App Store for example, they have price bands, so something that's $0.99 in america is I think £0.99 over here too (might be £0.79, i forget) I imagine it's set at €130 to account for currency rate changes so that the price doesnt change (in Euro terms).
I’m not being funny and truly hope you save the £6, principle and all that, but they have expressly set out an alternative currency!
Just for interest I logged in from one of the servers based in our USA datacentre and there the price is $140 which is a much better deal because even at interbank rates thats only 107.50 I think the problem really is they are fixing a price for the season in Euros, Dollars or whatever and thats the price - it just needs some small print to clarify approx rates at the time of conversion as I doubt any of our USA subscribers are complaining Different topic why is a match pass $7 in the USA (£5.40) but £10 in the UK !
I would class that as a feature, not a problem. If I purchase today, I don't want to be paying a different price to my mate that bought it yesterday. It's how most companies do it. The only problem I can see is that the FAQ says £110. They just need to change that to 'Roughly £110' or something similar. The actual purchase page shows the correct price, so from a legal standpoint, I can't see there being an issue...
[ To be honest I don't care about the £6 (as I said in the chat transcript ). I did though point out that their own T&Cs stated ... 'All payments must be in UK pounds sterling, unless we have expressly set out an alternative currency by which you may pay in the order process or any renewal notice. We cannot accept payment in currencies other than those expressly noted at the time you submit your order or in any subsequent renewal notice.' (Note the MUST - sterling and "may pay" re other currencies.) They also kind of shot themselves in the foot by responding that it only applied to UK customers!!) Errr! the advertised price of £110 is for overseas subscribers!! [ To be honest I don't care about the £6 (as I said in the chat transcript ). I did though, point out that their own T&Cs stated ... Err! the advertised price of £110 is for overseas subscribers!! As regards the exchange rate.. they are quoting airport rip-off rate e.g. Moneycorp as it work out at 1 euro = .0.947 sterling (even I can get 1.115) Will pay the 130 euro anyway (not that I have told them that) but the point is the website explicitly advertised that the price was frozen from last year and is only £110 for new subscribers overseas. Needs addressing. Personally I havenNot spent that much time on it apart from chat conversation which was done whilst doing something else online- spent longer trying to work out how to pay in pounds 'cos the other point is no-where does it tell you you cant pay in pounds.
So have they now stopped you from paying with uk card and address?? What if you live in uk and just travel a lot?
Nah! fast typing and copy/paste only takes a few secs. Updating it whilst doing other things. So you don't think misleading websites need highlighting then and taking to task? EDIT! 2 hours to save £6??? I don't come that cheap
I had the same problem but having gone back and forth with iFollow about other issues last season I just couldn't be arsed arguing the toss with em and paid it anyway.
Apparently. The overseas offer quoted at £110 is only available in the currency quoted so NOT £110 and the exchange rate they use frankly takes the p*ss. If you put UK (I could use my daughters address which is our UK postal address) but then the overseas subscription (live video etc) is not available.
Missing the fact that it states you MUST pay in Sterling or MAY pay in alternative currency. 'May' implies an option to. The main point is they are marketing it a £110 for overseas subscription which even with aUK bank account and UK postal address you cannot buy it at that price. The FX rate is also taking the p*ss. £6 is nowt (if paying in euros) but multiply by a few thousand subscribers and it tots up. All I expect is them to add something to the website and stop misleading the customer.
Websites that deliberately attempt to mislead the consumer, yes. These have just gone for a static exchange rate rather than a variable one. I don't think there's any attempt to swindle the consumer. With the potential volatility in the exchange rate due to Brexit it could well be that next week 130 euros will cost only £105. When buying products across boarders using different currency I always have the expectation that I'll pay more. It's one of the great disadvantages of the separatist movement.
