We did this a few days ago and the official German version is "Schtendel gibt uns ein wave..." But then you have to add.... "Gut ein Schtendel, gut ein son, gut ein Schtendel, lets haben another ein." ….. and this from a German speaking native so must be true.
Please repost this on Saturday and every other Match day,Mr Badger. You can imagine the Headlines, "Barnsley Fans sing fluently in German" shock!.
Hope it's better than the headlines we got when first singing "Bruce. Bruce. Bruce Dyer." Chuffin numptee press comment. Making out it was a racist chant.
If we sing it in German at least he'd understand it instead of applauding back. He's picking up English quickly, but it was still amusing the bench having to tell him to respond to the fans, when asking for a wave went on too long the first time.
Seeing that "Welle" in German means a wave like you would find at the seaside - I don't think it's exactly a good translation. "Mit der Hand winken" is to give a wave, but it's very close to something else you can do with your hand.
