Following that great effort from the half-way line on Saturday, I started reminiscing about various long range goals that I've seem over the years. These are a few that spring to mind, but please feel free to add more: -

John McDonald, from next to the away dug out at Oakwell against Grimsby
Anthony Kay from about 45 yards at Oakwell against Plymouth
Malcolm Shotton wind assisted effort against Sunderland at Oakwell
Martin Devaney exocet missile against Plymouth at Home Park
Trevor Aylott chip from outside Oakwell Sandwich shop against Brighton

    Any more?

Martin Bullock at home to Leicester. Legend has it that the Leicester defender said: "Go on, then, have a go!" so Bullock did.

Ferenczi away to Stoke. I think we had one shot on target all night, and Stoke had many. Stoke 0-1 Barnsley.

Wow that Sunderland game, the East Stand wobbled a few times and a few left! I temember Owen Archdeacons against Leceister, it was only about 35 yards but by the time i got home it was 45!

Don't know who remembers it, but Steve Cooper scored a brilliant chip, on the run, at home against Sunderland in 1989, from about 35 yards out. Tony Norman was their keeper, ball just clipped crossbar on way in. For someone renowned for his heading, it was a brilliant goal.

The Thompson goal v Stoke mentioned already is the purest strike of a football I can remember.

I was about to mention that Cooper goal but you got in there before me. I've looked and looked for a video of it, but can't find it anywhere. I don't think we had cameras regularly at Oakwell until the season after. That game was also notable for a small group of fans getting chucked out for protesting the sale of John Beresford from behind the dug-outs.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Futch's 35 yard own goal yet

In the right end Agnew scored loads of long range efforts.

Steve Walsh and Steve Agnew were in town drinking that night and I had a brief chat with them. Apparently they'd been told to back off and back off because Bullock couldn't shoot. Ah well!

One of my earliest memories is an Ally Millar free kick away at Donny. Not sure how far out it was but I was only small and at the other end of the ground. First direct free kick goal I remember. Think we drew 2-2 at the old Belle Vue.

I vaguely remember Anthony Kay scoring a 30-40 yard volley against Plymouth in the first couple of minutes of a tuesday night game.
