I agree. His style isn't my cup of tea at all and I wouldn't have chosen it but there is no doubting that it looks a hell of a lot better than a plain wall and that the guy is a very talented artist and also a very devoted reds fan. No problem at all with people saying they don't like the style or anything like that. It's art and art is subjective. But anyone saying 'it's ****' is nothing but an ignorant troll.
Think you've hit the nail on the head there Its not going to be to everyone's taste of course, but it's been done for free out of love and passion for the club, so people should at least show some respect!
Only seen bits on here and I like it, up close am probably gonna love it. Well done to club for once narr kick on and tek folks views or moans according to sum on board and start to bring our matchday experience up to a decent standard. Yer can come and sit darn pigeon **** alley wi me if tha brings thi own wet wipes Chien.
Some right pillocks from the sty commenting on this retweet. They're not rivals though, hope the lovely people go bust.
Yea there absolute quality its a great asset yo the stadium after twenty years of breeze block are u real?
The thing I don't get with the murals is, regardless of your views on style, isn't it going to look ***** in 10 years when the paint is flaking and so on? Not just the artists work but the plain paint behind it? Wouldn't they havr been better painted on boards and them laminated before screwing to the walls?
Ben mentioned on twitter yesterday that something was happening over the next few weeks to ensure it lasts. Someone else suggested putting a clear perspex screen on, to protect it.
What happens to Banksys murals? I’m guessing it’ll be fine as it’s not open to the elements, direct sunshine or jealous dee dars... I think the club may cover some in Perspex though. The murals are fantastic. Whether you’re into the art or not. The history of this great football club is always a good read in whatever form.
For sure. But there's a world of difference between saying something's not to your taste, and writing it off as being ****, which is pretty unhelpful. Unless it's by Tracy Emin, in which case the chances are it is ****, of a worthless an irredeemable variety.
Although Art is subjective there is still a case for arguing some is 'rubbish' - literally in the case of an 'installation' at the Tate modern a few years back which was a small pile of ?? on the floor (allegedly valued in the tens of thousands) which a cleaner mistook for rubbish an apparently swept up and threw in the bin. I have to agree the 'unmade bed 'where Emin has to follow up the 'installers' and re-arrange things to her satisfaction wherever it is being exhibited, is of highly dubious artistic merit IMHO. There should be at least some creative talent and skill involved to be considered 'Art' neither of which, for me, are really demonstrated. Whilst some may criticise the'primitive' style (I don't) of the mural the artist clearly is talented (some of the figures appear reminiscent of 30's communist propaganda poster figures) and from what I can see on the videos (limited I have to admit) a lot of thought has gone into its construction and it depicts the history of the club in highlights and in the context of what else was going on.. eg WW1 and WW2 . It is educational and thought provoking. What, if any, plans are there for people other than Ponty end ticket/ST holders and 'open day' visitors (one day a year?) to be able to view it? It is a shame that only those people can get to see it.
It looks good. Not my cup of tea, but appreciate the effort gone in and it’s better than what was there before. My only concern was that it needs to be sealed/lacquered or else it’ll be a right mess in 5 years time.
