"Early days, but Barnsley look very good. Better than any away team at vp since we last played Sheffield United at home. Blackburn looked good after they scored, but Barnsley look the real 90 minute deal to me" "It's apparent that the gap between the championship and league one is getting bigger.. The three teams that went up last season were the teams that were relegated the season before and it looks like it will be Barnsley and Sunderland this time as well, I think Burton will struggle though. Barnsley have very good, skillful players and won't suffer many setbacks this season. We, on the other hand, need a few games before the gloom sets in." "Come on Fordy. Sometimes you have to give the opposition the praise they deserved. Yes, we looked clueless at times, but take nothing away from Barnsley, they were very good" "Barnsley were strong, organised and far better than anyone else at vp for getting on for two seasons" "I'm hoping that it was a case of Barnsley being really good. If they were just a top 6 team then we're miles behind." "Barnsley broke forward as a unit and at times had more men in the box than we did, I thought Doyle was hung out to dry very little support as you say we didn't get forward when we had the ball, Moore and Bradshaw were a hand full, backed up by the likes of Potts, Mowatt, and Thiam they look a very good going forwards." "Credit where credit is due. Barnsley bossed us and we were beaten by the better team. They had the better luck today with where the ball dropped and the ref didn't help either However, we won't be playing teams like Barnsley (who on this team's strength and performance, will be close contenders to go straight back up) every week." "Today we were battered for most of the game. I want Barnsley to be the benchmark for where we want to be heading" "Difficult to assess how good or bad we are because Barnsley looked very good. They beat us all over the pitch. Looked like a Championship club and we looked lightweight. Thought they were bigger, stronger and faster than us. Hope for better from us and on that performance would expect Barnsley to finish in the top two. We won’t play many teams of that standard so work and patience are needed." "I was right in front of it and it would have been harsh to give a pen. Scannel did dive and look for it. IMO." I am loving this, I could read stuff like that about us all day.
The 'benchmark' part is the best compliment we'll get all season. When other teams look to us for inspiration, we're doing something right.
Nice to see home fans recognising a diving attempt to get a penalty as well (Scannell). If that had happened last season at, say, Elland Road the ref would have been pointing at the spot before the player hit the ground.
Some more... "Lots for Collins to learn from that performance, mainly from Barnsley" "I think they were the best side I've seen at VP for a while they look a step above league one we wont face that kind of test every week" "If Barnsley play like that all season theyll finish in top two for sure" "I think we saw the Champions today."
Pulled this from Wimbledon forum..... I would say Barnsley away is a massive challenge, will probably be a 2 or 3 goal defeat I think we ve got the fear factor working in our favour .
You must have found a different Wimbledon forum to me. The one I found was in such an unreadable format I gave up.
Bradford Manager Michael Collins was quoted as saying " anyone who finishes above League One new boys Barnsley will be promoted." Collins added " They are a very good team, but I don't think we are a million miles off." I agree, they are about half a million.! Barnsley Assistant coach Andreas Winkler said " We were more comfortable after we got the second goal."
Bradford looked a lot like we did at times last season. Neat enough in possession but hardly looked like they had a goal in them.
Bradford need a goal threat to ensure they are one of the better teams in the League. If they can get the right men in, they could feature in the top eight for most of the season. I don't want to attempt to guess where we might finish, but I'm mightily impressed with what I've seen thus far.
Didn't see the match, but I have to say that on paper Doyle, Payne and Scannell is a formidable front three for League 1.
