Where are you? I thought you could only get live video if you are abroad. I am in Italy and went on the iFollow link on the club official site, registered with iFollow and bought it there for the Bradford match for 6 euros. There was some confusion as I was able to buy it but it told me there were no matchday passes available for that match!! I went on teh chat and they confirmed it WAS available. You MUST use your overseas bank account they wont accept UK bank details and pay in the local currency . They also say some matches are not covered e.g. FA cup and any match that is being broadcast by an official EFL partner in your region/country. In my case, Italy, no one does.
This season any game played outside of core Saturday hours and not televised can be viewed by UK residents through ifollow. I'd guess its the same process as for overseas, just UK residents haven't experienced it as yet (aside from the fraudsters with VPN's ;-))
How did that work? Are you talking about iFollow? What exchange rate did you get? How did your UK bank account process a Euro payment? MY understanding (see my thread a few days ago -' iFollow Help! Now I am really confused...' IF you are in UK you surely only get audio commentary NOT video). I think it was Jay that said they use that to confirm you are an overseas subscriber. EFL rules apparently prevent live video to try and ensure more people attend the actual venue, although one or two people seem to know how to circumvent thse rules
Yes but Barnsley Reds said he bought if for Saturday's match! For the record I only bought the match pass to test the bandwidth. I have since bought the year subscription (in spite of my gripe that they are misleading people stating it is only £110 when in fact the FX rate they use is poor and it costs more) Still 40 matches or so for around £116 is good provided my ISP holds up. Good picture quality and frame rate on Saturday with only a few minor glitches at the end where it pixelated (possibly the extra time run over took us into the period where everyone is logging on to the results services.
Cut and pasted this from EFL Official website Following iFollow’s successful introduction in 2017/18 for supporters based overseas, enhancements are being introduced to the live streaming platform ahead of the start of the new campaign at no extra cost to viewers. Improved production values are being implemented across the online broadcasting service, providing Clubs with the scope to introduce bespoke commentary as well as on-screen graphics. Some midweek Championship matches will also benefit from a four camera setup while additional enhancements to iFollow include more in-game statistics via the app, mobile/desktop websites and an improved match centre. Prices for the platform have been frozen at £110 for the season for overseas viewers, and International Season Pass subscriptions are on sale as of today. Supporters can find out details on how to subscribe by visiting your Club’s website. In a second development, and in what is a first for English football, some Sky Bet EFL matches will also be made available to watch to supporters within the UK and Ireland throughout the 2018/19 season via iFollow This development has been made possible due to the new broadcast agreement with Sky which was agreed last year, whereby EFL Clubs have been granted the rights to stream games to a domestic audience, in addition to their followers overseas which has been available since the start of 2017/18. EFL Clubs will be able to live-stream in the UK and Ireland any league match via their respective iFollow (or equivalent) service that takes place outside the blocked hours of 14.45-17.15 on Saturday afternoons and that is not broadcast live on Sky Sports. Fixtures taking place on Bank Holidays or Easter will be unavailable for streaming. Sky Sports will have the right to stream the same Championship fixtures to subscribe across their interactive and digital services. Details of how to access EFL matches domestically will be announced in due course. I take this to mean that any EFL games played outside of the traditional Saturday PM period are available to view (in theory) provided they are not being shown on sky Pretty sure FA matches are not included in this arrangement plus some clubs are not party to ifollow. However I went onto the chat line this AM to confirm availability of tomorrow’s game (I’m in Tarn) and was advised that there is a global blackout on all tomorrow’s games. No explanation was given. Please do check for yourselfs- I’m just relating what I was advised
I watched the Derby away match last season from ‘abroad’ courtesy of Opera Airways. It wouldn’t let me sign up for the Barnsley match pass on iFollow so I ended up signing up to Rams TV for the match. I’m still getting emails from them.
Had the same problem on holiday- personally find it frustrating that Reds fans can’t access the live vids (as you say with UK bank details) and contrary if you are living abroad. I could get the commentary only. There are a lot of fans UK based who can’t attend these games. More red tape!
I used a custom VPN to route my traffic through a server I own in an overseas datacenter. There are out of the box alternatives for others, but I find this the 'safest' for me, no risk or someone else getting the IP blocked. As for the payment, I have no idea. I paid €6 and I used my British Debit Card. It has yet to process, so I can't see it on the online banking. From last season though, in February, it seems to have charged me about £6.50 including a £1 fee.
