Never like us to lose obviously but not fussed at all. Even if you get a big team (which isn't really possible until round 3) there's not much money in this comp, and we aren't hard up anyway.

FA Cup is different, love that and always want to progress.

Genuinely not. Winning games is a habit as is losing them.

I enjoyed being able to look forward to a couple more midweek games last year but as long as Stendel learns from tonight and it's not repeated at the weekend, it's for the better.

Feel similar. Almost pleased we had a kick up the arse and perhaps it will let Stendel know that after our first team a few still aren’t ready to be regulars. But still ***** to lose. Would rather have won. Waste of the effort and ***** for those who made an effort to go.

Really wanted Moncur, McGeehan, Isgrove and Victor to show they were ready to challenge for the first team.

Sound a weaker team without Moore. Another striker and winger definitely needed before end of the window.

Same for the FA cup in my eyes, we need to win promotion, no money in the cups.

That's what happens when you make so.many changes and put a rookie keeper in net. Some of these starters like Izzy ect people think should be regular in the league aswell....... could of gave us a kick up arse for afc Wimbledon to be honest.

Bit of a kick up the backside, not going to gain much from it for me. The FA Cup wins in 2008 didn't help us in the league at the time, in fact we couldn't win a bloody game. Don't think it makes the difference people claim. Mowatt, Lindsay, Thiam and Moore didn't start, big difference.

Johnson Paint clearly helped us get out of this league last time.

It did, but that’s the only one I can recall recently. If we don’t get promoted in May I can’t imagine many looking back and thinking well that’s because we lost to Blackpool in the league cup back in August

Different situation. We were at rock bottom, it gave us a boost in confidence than then translated to the league. I think a good cup run can perhaps inspire poor league form to turnaround, but if you're aiming for automatic promotion and have made a good start, I doubt this will have a negative impact in the league. I guess we'll see on Saturday.

I genuinely think that a good cup run can be beneficial a la 2015/16 but equally some of our most successful seasons have been when we've been dumped out of the League/Carling/Carabao Cup in the early rounds.

I can even recall that in 1996/97 when we won our first five league games including away wins at West Brom and Man City there was a 2-1 League Cup defeat at Rochdale thrown into the middle of that (and even though we later went through on aggregate we went out to someone like Gillingham next round).

Given the choice this week I'd prefer 3 points v Wimbledon to beating Blackpool and losing on Saturday.

Me too, but it's not a choice, we could lose both, or have won both.

It's not a big problem we lost tonight, but I like cup runs. I know it's old fashioned these days and everything is about the league, but some of my favourite ever games are cup games.

Agree. I’ll never be happy about losing. The only positive I can take is if it’s a realisation that some of the bench/squad aren’t as good as perhaps thought, then we may strengthen. Not seen anything from Isgrove since we re signed him to think he was a replacement for Hammill, Moncur sounded decent for 30 minutes, McGeehan still one of the most dissapointing signings that I’ve been excited about, and Victor/Walton are young lads still learning.

Agreed we are better off out - I'm happy with the result.
Losing a winning mentality may or may not be an issue (I doubt it will make any difference here), but fatigue and recovery will always be an issue at every level of sport.
They will benefit from having their feet up with a protein shake rather than having to go on a 7 hour round trip to Gillingham, or wherever, to play in front of 1000 fans. Seems obvious to me.

Agreed, league cup is a complete waste of time these days we’re better off out of it.

Dunno what our opponents did last night but most teams use this competition to blood new players...until the later rounds.
This wasn't successful last night for us ...more than anything it may indicate to the management that we need a back up keeper on a season long loan...would not be at all suprised.

I'm amazed you can discount a brilliant cup run like that. We were no worse off that season than any other season between 2007 and 2013, always finishing between 17th and 21st. That cup run is the greatest achievement of that time and didn't make our league form any worse.
