Exactly, All tonight proves is taking 6 players or so out of our first choice 11 disrupts our style.
It gave us a competitive game to give management a chance to assess back up players and see where we need strengthening.

 

I don't think they will strengthen by bringing in.
That's the worry.

 

Disappointing result but you can't expect to swap two thirds of the team and not lose cohesion.
Ah well, fingers crossed for Saturday.

 

Agree but Blackpool also changed 8 players so I would have expected us to at least be competitive with Blackpool second string. But it may not be a bad thing to stop any complacency in the squad and management.

 

Good point and 2 of the scorers scored their first League goals after having come from Non League.

 

Exactly, a team is more than the sum of the parts. Mowatt, Lindsey, Moore, Potts and Thiam have been important to the first 2 wins. Taking them all out was a step to far for their replacements. Victor was never likely to dominate like Moore does, and McGeehan isn’t at the level Mowatt is.

Over the course of league matches we may need to swap one or two at a time, which will help them bed in and get sharpness with the first team.

I would like one or two signings, but not just because of tonight. I just think we can strengthen out wide and up front. Hopefully the nice little Jackson windfall and Mawson money will be invested in a couple of loans that become permenant in January.

£450k-£600k depending on the sell on fee that’s banded about (30% or 45%). Went for £1.5m with add ons.

Nice little bit of cash. Always worth taking a punt on these lads.

 

It wasn’t just about the changing out of players, it’s the approach and attitude to the game.

The coaches and players won’t have wanted to lose. They’ll have set up to win.

But the performance and lack of urgency showed that the squad and coaching team had this quite low on the list of priorities.

So many changes told the squad that psychologically even if the manager didn’t actually say it.

The game didn’t really matter, it isn’t a massive issue not being in the next round, so it would always have been hard to motivate themselves to chase the game having gone behind or even in the first place.

Onward and upward. The league will be a different kettle of fish and any of the players who came in tonight would do a job when called upon. It’s not likely all six would be required at the same time.
