To allow performances like that when people have paid good hard earned money to watch is bang out of order. End of
Were you there, cos it didn't sound good at all on ifollow. Said Blackpool deserved to win. Perhaps it has told Stendel what his "best" eleven are, those not in the frame are maybe not good enough.
If anyone went to the match not thinking there would be at least 4 changes made and that could potentially disrupt the team then they’re daft. Not posted in over a month when we’ve won our first two league matches and and this is his contribution now. Dear oh dear...
Not sure 'allowed' is the right word. Like me, the coaches probably thought the changes would spur on the 'fringe' players to show what they've got.
Hats off to you and every one of the 990 Reds there tonight. 200 mile round trip on a Tuesday night for the 1st round of a naff cup, fantastic support.
Just got back and I have to say it was a lack lustre performance from the reds. Fully understand the changes but I expected a better response from some of the changes. Moncur was star turn for first 45 mins but fairly invisible for the second 45 (along with most of the team), McGeeham never got involved at all and Victor had nowhere near the impact his sub appearances had had We were sat next to technical area and DS was very unhappy at times that some of the players were not doing what they had been told to do. Anyway onwards and upwards, would rather beat Wimbledon on Saturday, given the choice.
I'm afraid these days every Cup has become a mickey mouse cup hanks to the disrespectful example set by the "bigger" clubs.
I thought we were abysmal and a let down to the fans who spent time and money getting there. What it told us? Whatever League we are in Moncur is incapable of making an impact for more than 30 minutes. Victor is a long way off being a starter and we could do with more cover up front. Walton is a long way off being ready for the first team. Poor distribution and decision making. We better hope that Davies doesn’t lose confidence again. Jackson looks rusty and slow and the defence worse with him in it but given his past performances you would imagine he could quickly play through that. Isgrove was very ineffective he plays best when he has a run of games but you have to wonder if he will get them. McGheehan struggles all evening. Needs to look are mowatt’s example and buck his ideas up. The talents there. Some ratings Walton 4 Cavare 8 Pinnilos 4 Jackson 4 Pinnock 5 McGheehan 4 Isgrove 4 Bradshaw 5 VA 4 Dougall 5 Moncur 6
Is it though? Is the talent there? Mowatt came from Leeds where he'd won the player of the year twice I believe. I know none of us have got any time for Leeds, but for a player to win the fans' player of the year twice at a Championship club, even Leeds, he must have something about him. He was under-performing when he came to us. Playing much worse than he had done in the past. McGeehan hasn't got that pedigree. He's played in the conference and League 2. He had 5 months at a League 1 club last season but they didn't play him. I've never seen him have a good game. Maybe the talent just isn't there? I'm not saying that's definitely the case, but it's looking like it.
You know what.... just thinking about the form and level of performance of our players. Just going back 4-5 years, did it used to be so erratic and hard to predict from season to season? I always thought we'd often have a core who had a fairly standard level of performance without much variation. But the last few seasons we've seen a lot of players do well and then dip, be poor and improve. Sometimes slightly, but more often a big change. It's probably too sweeping an assessment given our efforts of development and the changes of coaches and large volumes of players, and needs more time to see players. That in itself is difficult. Players we've owned for over a year, some over 2, and they've hardy played any games at all for us. But I guess its all part of migrating on from the summer of 17 signings, many of which for a playing position we weren't going to set up for.
McGheehan has similar pedigree to Hourihane when we signed him. Best midfielder in L2 ( more regular scorer than Conor at that level) whether he can take that forwards will be a test of his ability and our coaching staff’s talents in getting it out of him. Mowatt has an equally underwhelming Loan spell.
But surely Connor is the exception. It's not normal to sign players from league 2 and sell them for millions What's normal is they stay in and around league 1 and 2. To expect it every time because it happened once doesn't sound very sensible to me.
I suppose the big issue with McGeehan is the fact that we paid so much money for him, plus the fact that he arrived while recovering from a serious injury. Maybe that affected him more than the management hoped it would. He may never be the player he once was. Had we got him on a free we could just release him to go and play at L2 level again, thus giving him a chance to start again. We’ve written off high value signings before. He could be the next one.
