I have seen lots of comments, on here and Twitter, about Oxford and particularly Bradford fans, being magnanimous in defeat and praising our style of football, and hoping that our fans would be the same when the situation arose. Well it has arisen and I haven't seen much if any praise for Blackpool!!

Well I want put that straight. I thought Blackpool in the second half did an excellent job, all stemming from their caretaker managers half time team talk, in nullifying most of our attacking threat and options.

They finally decided to man mark George Moncur, who had absolutely run the game in the first half being the link between the defensive part of the team and Tom Bradshaw and Victor Adeboyejo. As a result these two hardly had a touch in the second half, except for Victor's glaring missed chance when one on one with the keeper!

The overall work rate from Blackpool also increased, eptimised by their centre forward Armand Gnanduillet, who must have made at least 15 tackles or challenges, winning the ball back high up the field. (as an aside I had always thought off Gnanduillet, in his previous appearances against us, as not being very good! However last night he certainly changed my opinion, and if we are looking for a back up to Keiffer Moore he would be ideal!)

As a result of the tactical changes and additional work rate, Blackpool did to us, what we had being doing to our previous opponents, which was have lots of play around our penalty area, which then translated into chances which they obviously managed to take. On a different day all three goals may have been avoided but Blackpool had earned the right to have their bit of luck.

Overall in no way was this a poor performance from Barnsley, it just wasn't up to standard of the previous two!

In the first half we had been in complete control, with Moncur, Dougall and McGeehan running the game, and probably should have been more than one goal in front, however the Blackpool manager did his stuff at half time and the rest is history.

These will be the challenges that we will have to overcome during the season as more teams try to suss out ways to nullify of attacking intent.

Hopefully we can overcome these on Saturday with hopefully our full team on show, and get back to winning ways.

Matt and the other commentator were very complimentary of Blackpool's performance in the 2nd half, it sounded like after they took the lead they didn't give us an inch and comfortably saw out the game. Frustrating for us, but fair play to them. Hopefully we'll stuff them in the league game.

Blackpool played well and even in first half, they had the better chances . They got away with hefty tackles which should have been fouls , but the ref and linesman were oblivious to .

I agree, I was impressed with Blackpool. They were exactly how I remembered a lot of League One teams to be; competitive, strong, quick and effective. We'll face a lot of sides like that this season who might not play great football but will know exactly how to thwart the opposition and make it a real challenge. I do expect us to overcome a lot of teams through our own ability, but it's worth noting that neither Oxford or Bradford made it at all difficult for us, where as Blackpool did. Now whether the difference was mostly our own performance dipping or the standard of opposition remains to seen.

Fair point. I said to my lad during the game that they had offered more than Bradford and Oxford.

I think going to Blackpool and seeing the empty stadium lulls you into a false sense of security, but their off field problems aren't mirrored on the pitch, where they seem unaffected.

2 seasons ago we went there with the majority of our team still intact, and couldn't put them away, losing at home in the replay.

EDIT - poor show from Blackpool on the disabled front, as they joined other clubs that have let down my blind mates.

My mate John rang on the day of the game to make sure they would have headsets for the commentary. After being sent to two different offices we did get them, with a "good luck".

After a full first half with nothing I went to see the stewards at half time, only to be told "the bloke that does it isn't here cos it's only a cup game"

We're getting fed up to the back teeth of this now. It's happening far to often.
