Wednesday a big-looking 11/5 on Bet365? These sort of games are perilous for betting purposes, and there is the possibility of a weakened Wednesday side. But I would have thought Luhukay would be wanting to get some momentum going with this tie, and I could imagine Wednesday being too strong for a relatively poor Sunderland side even if the Fowls rest one or two. Sentiment (i.e. wanting them to lose) don't come in to it - Wednesday are too long at 11/5.

I think they'll win, what with 25/30'000 turning up & 10'000 locked outside

Sky Bet having a 18/1 Super Boost of both teams to score both halfs. It's happened with a few first round matches and the round has been full of goals.

Just seen the teams and doubled my bet on Wednesday. May be egg on face time come 9.35 pm but those odds look way wrong to me.

Looking good, hope for your bet Sunderland opt out of this cup so they can concentrate on promotion, similar to what we did on Tuesday

Two poor teams, but as ever, there has to be a winner. It's worth knowing if you bet on the footy that Bet365 pay out if a team goes two goals up. This did me a favour the season before last when we were 2-0 up away at Wigan, and the job is done tonight.

Wednesday through 2-0. Now meet Wolves at Hillsborough in the next round.
Can't see the Fowls winning that one personally.

Steady if unspectacular debut. He didn't look out of place. Bannon impressed with his energy, and Palmer and Reach still look useful players. Not sure Fletcher isn't getting a bit long in the tooth though. It still baffles me that no-one seems to have been unable to unlock Rhodes's talent since his Huddersfield/Blackburn days, but he's gone to Carrow Road of course.

As for Sunderland, they still look a poor side. The first Wednesday goal was an absolute calamity for the centre back, who had two yards' start on Mattias but still lost out. On the back of the new regime and manager, Sunderland were hot favourites to win our league, but they have an awful long way to go, and I feel we are capable of doing the double over them this season...….again!
