We already change the kick off time every now and then and while I don't particularly like it I accept it has to happen. You said every home game had to kick off at 12:00 which is different and would be a change that many would not be happy to accept.

It's bad enough for away fans now for those at the far end of country (say Plymouth) without making it worse for them.

The correct times for football are 3pm on a Saturday and 7.45pm on a Tuesday, with special dispensations for bank holiday fixtures. Anything else is crap.

The fans of the NFL clubs aren't just limited to the city or state that they play in, there's fans of the NFL teams here in the UK!
Believe it or not you can be a fan of a team and live in a different country. Yes, it's not the majority but it's pretty awesome and exciting for the minority I would've thought. Besides, it's only one game. Plus if it makes money for the team and gives them more exposure, what's not to like?

There are die hard supporters worldwide of some of the bigger teams (Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona etc)
Would the people of Manchester really mind that much if one game was played abroad in a 38 game season? (Not including FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League)

I'm not really for or against it to be honest, I'm just saying it's not as bad as some are making it out to be, but it wouldn't bother me if it didn't happen. Most bigger teams do pre season tours and things like that anyway but it's not the same as a competitive meaningful game.
I'm just saying there are fans everywhere, I know some die hard Manchester United & Chelsea fans in North America that probably know more about the history of those teams than some of the supporters that live in the UK.

Don’t be so patronising I know full well not all fans live in the Town/ city they support, you’ve only to read this board to see even we have fans all over the Uk and indeed, the world. However, going back to the original point, I would not want a regular home fixture Saturday midday kick- off.

Yeah who cares about the rank and file fans. No problem for me or London based fans or those who work Saturday mornings to miss out if we get TV revenue grrr

They like our game because of the passion of the fans, that’s what sets us apart from the Spanish/French/Italian leagues. To change the kick off times to midday when a lot of people would be working or will have been on nights, away fans not being able to get their in time unless they pay for hotels etc would have an adverse effect in the long run. Not only that but I’m sure there’s plenty of people like me who wouldn’t go through sheer anger of being put second to random jolly come latelys.

They want to watch our game, they make sacrifices like the rest of us do to get there or watch it on tv. If not, go watch a club in your own country.

Think SYP would have something to say about us moving KO times to suit China. Its their way or the highway

It would be interesting to have seen the reaction if this board had existed when the club changed its kick off times from 3.15 back to 3pm.
In terms of kicking off regularly at different times I'd think I would have been pretty annoyed when I was able to attend regularly. However, once in a while I don't see the problem. Or do we expect the owners to actually NOT try to grow the club but simply put their hands in their pockets?

I'm in a minority in that personally I actually quite like midday kick-offs, but then I'm a morning person who much prefers drinking after matches than before. I very much understand why most people don't like it though, and wouldn't ever want it to be a regular thing. Also, it's a total nightmare for long-distance fans.

Ahhhh so moving kick off times are the only way to grow the club? Please point me to previous cases of success with this

Tranmere's most successful period coincided with them regularly playing home fixtures on Friday nights to avoid clashing with Liverpool and Everton.

Did I say it was the only way? Did I suggest moving more than the occasional one or two?

I go back quite a few years, not as long as some on here, but I honestly don't remember us kicking off at 15:15 hours. Did we actually do this and if we did can you remember what year the time was moved. My Dad goes back a very long time so I'll also ask him tomorrow.

We did use to do it. Apparently to allow people to drink til closing time and still get to the match. I can remember it when I was a kid so in the 60s at least.

I was always led to believe it was down to te finsihing time at the pit. On another note, I'm convinced some people still thinks it starts a 3.15 the way the saunter up late every Saturday.

It was definitely 3:15 when I first started going in 1971. We always used to be a late kick off in the results on Grandstand before I went regularly. I was told the reason for the delayed kick off was to allow those on mornings at the pit to get there in time for Kick off.

I dont remember exactly when it moved - maybe @JLWBigLil with his encyclopedic knowledge of Barnsleys History can remember but I think we were kicking off home games at 3pm by the time we appointed Clarke as manager and everything changed.

It was before Clarke came in 1978, but I can't remember exactly when. Likewise, I don't remember the year when our evening kick offs altered from 7:30 to 7:45.
