In today's Barnsley Chronicle, there is an article which quotes Steve Houghton saying the council are going to build houses on the Courthouse Car Park. Finding somewhere to park in Barnsley is hard enough on match days, without the loss of 800 parking places.
Probably selling off to recoup money from the Glassworks fiasco. But wait, where are all these Glassworks patrons going to park? Makes you laugh.
Seems reasonably well thought out. Most places seem to have the same issue anyway. Leeds has been replacing car parks by more buildings without adding more parking as well. On top of that they've extended some of the parking permit zones outwards. So parking for commuters is getting worse, although they've added some park & rides. I suppose Barnsley is just a bit too small for a park & ride though.
Wonder how likely I would be to drop on a space at half 2. Does anyone use any of the other car parks? Are they likely to be busy? Don't really go into town much these days.
I use the one at top end of Pitt Street (next to old churchyard) through the week and it's free at weekend. Plenty of spaces.
Doesn’t matter though, they can do anything they damn well please completely unopposed. Cheers thatcher you walnut faced munter.
I have no time for Thatcher but she isn't responsible for the same useless numpties being re-elected to Barnsley Council time after time after time. The solution to that lies a lot closer to home.
Got a penalty through post other day Went to council to argue and told them the sign indicated it was ok . He asked what the sign stated and i said Parking Fine
Would be a big mistake in the town, if no additional multistory parking is planned. Local retailers have it hard enough competing with Leeds and Meadowhall.
Are these zones equal in size? I suppose the problem with that is everyone would go unlimited if they are available even if they don't expect to be 3 hours, just in case.
