Is it possible for Sky Sports to put on any more betting adverts ? I appreciate they are adding to the Premier League's coffers, but they are becoming 'mind numbing'. Also at the risk of sounding sanctimonious there is a social issue here. I've never met a gambler yet who'll own up to losing money, they all say they make a few bob or break even, yet in 2017 British gamblers LOST £13 billion. The woman who owns 'BET 365' (Denise Coates) from Stoke is worth £4.1 billion and pays herself £220 million a year plus bonuses. As gambling can be addictive should its advertising be banned like fags ?
Its a big money spinner. I stopped betting a couple of seasons ago. A quid every saturday on accys adds up when ya lose every time. On the subject of adverts, why do they always get a dodgy sounding actor (eg Ray Winstone) to sell their company? Come on. I bet on the football i aint dealing f*cking gear son.
The ones that do my head in, at the adverts on TV for roulette. People must be really gullible to believe they can win big on those sites.
My favourite is the ray winstone one . Always says "gamble responsibly " at the end . The guys been bankrupt twice ........
Best one is the free bet scam deposit so much and get this free when you are a new customer any winnings must be wagered about 1 million times before cash withdrawal
I would say so - cant advertise spirits or wine but you can advertise betting in such a way as it appears a fun activity that everyone is doing any your life is poorer if you miss out.
Should have all got on Football Index when I suggested it to people last October/November. Absolutely booming. That's on Sky Sports ads this season too now! And Bristol Rovers shirts. Never too late...
They always were banned...the main exceptions being the National Lottery and the football pools...Blair scrapped the old rules.
I believe discussions are afoot for government to further restrict betting firms from advertising. The bookies are a powerful lobby, and no doubt they will try to resist. A knock-on problem for the horseracing industry is that the bookies provide a substantial part of the funding for the whole show, so the present model for funding racing and particularly prize money may have to change drastically if the bookies' adverts are restricted. Skynobet are a fairly cynical firm and I find that my stakes are restricted if I ever try to place a bet online with them, so I tend to have little to do with them these days. I have never had a problem with Bet365 despite being substantially in profit with them over the last six years. As far as addiction and overdoing it is concerned, I think people have to take a little responsibility. Alcohol and gambling are both potentially harmful if overdone, but I suspect the majority use them sensibly and derive enjoyment from them.
[QUOTE="orsenkaht, post: 2175002, member: 7543" I think people have to take a little responsibility. You have to question if a twelve year old kid sits down and watches football what effect a barrage of gambling ads has on him or her . To take an example from the near past I'd like to think football and sport in general is a family show and as gambling is an adult past time those adverts should be shown at a more appropriate time , not 2 o clock in the afternoon .
I know someone who's addicted to gambling. He's lost his marriage, his job, his house, the lot. He once bet £200 on a football game, then cashed out for £80 before the end. To this day he still believes he won £80. Poor bloke.
