We never looked like scoring today, neither team did. Our final ball into the box left a great deal to be desired, sadly. Wimbledon's goalie could've been sat with me for the most of the match. I felt sorry for Moore & Bradshaw as they received no service whatsoever. Both defences were on top from the first minute. However, a 0-0 draw is hardly the end of the world so I'm not going to go over the top with any criticism. Onto Rochdale now.
Stuff like today makes you think keeping Hammill as a squad player would have been a good idea, having someone to bring on who could mebbe pull out something out of the ordinary or just get legged up in the box
yep, need a decent winger as Potts would have trouble crossing himself in church! (ooh look a negative post!!)
It’s been said before, but we have two strikers that thrive on crosses into the box, but no one that can provide them.
Hammill could and would be more than a squad player. At this level he'd be an integral first team player. Its been done to death but we're essentially without wingers currently due to injuries and lacked creativity today. Hammill would solve both problems.
You might be right. We've had a good start to the season in the league, so I'm not going to bairn about what was a dull game today whilst conventiently ignoring two previous impressive performances.
Our first taste of utter frustration this season. We mixed up lumping the ball with slowly and predictably working it wide. On the one occasion that we actually went straight at the middle of the Dons defence, we almost scored through Mowatt, just before half time. Lazy, going through the motions type of football, that needed someone to lead from the front, but everyone seemed to be looking at each other.
I thought we were poor wide and in the final third. We kept a clean sheet, didnt lose and have not conceded all season. Promotion form 7 from 3 games. So all in all im ok with the ofd bad day at the office as long as we get back to winning next week.
Rochdale will be a different sort of challenge. They won't be as defensive. Hopefully we can get a win there and not concede again. Promotions are built on tight defences. Davies' confidence is vital due to lack of keeper cover. We could really do with a Harvey Barnes type on loan, or get Adam back.
Always think we are better playing at a higher tempo than we did today, but credit Wimbledon for stopping us doing that. Was away on holiday for the Oxford game, but I thought the biggest difference compared with last Saturday was that somehow Wimbledon managed to keep closing us down for the full 90 minutes. The result being we had little time on the ball, particularly in midfield, although to be fair, when we did find time and space it was wasted with a generally poor ball. There'll be days when we play worse and win. But 7 points from 9 is a cracking start to the season. Be interesting to see if any changes are made for the next 2 games, I think Stendel will be seeing things in each game we play, 10 or so games in I think will be a good yardstick for us.
Strange how people see things differently. I agree that we seemed very pedestrian, but my Wimbledon supporting mate texted me during the game to say they were struggling with our tempo and he would be happy with 0-0. Maybe he feared we would bore them to sleep and nick a goal?
Disappointing, but not the end of the world. I thought we were a tad sluggish today, but Wimbledon came for a point, stuck to their game plan, and deserved a draw. At full-time their fans were cheering as if they'd won the FA Cup, so perhaps that's a measure of what taking a point at Oakwell means to some teams. Neither side had conceded in the league before today, so in hindsight 0-0 was perhaps a predictable outcome. Looking ahead, however, we have to find a creative spark from somewhere, cos Wimbledon won't be the only side looking to stifle us at home.
We did have a few attacks in the first half in fairness, where we did move the ball quickly, all let down by the final ball. Definitely a game where an early goal was needed. A frustrating day, probably as fair a result as we'll see. They were well worth their point, we didn't do enough to get three.
OK I was not there but.... If promotion is to be guaranteed we must be winning our home games. Still a win on Tuesday will change things dramatically.
As we were at Blackpool, thought we were poor against Wimbledon. Sloppy passing, poor crosses, and what I believe the most problem - it seemed that our players thought they were better so didn't need to try much, all these fancy flicks etc may look good if they come off but most didn't, so they have to play like the first 2 games and prove they can win. They won when they wanted last season but unfortunately didn't when it counted. I just hope they haven't got they same mind set this season - Stendel has his work cut out to sort them...
