Did anybody else think Pinillos was pathetic in his reaction to not winning a throw late in the second half? As it was 0-0 he kept throwing the ball over the Wimbledon player's heads when it was a free kick or throw in, therefore wasting time in favour of the opposition! I thought he had lost it mentally and contributed to Wimbledon's tactics of slowing the game. Also the length of time taken to recover the ball by the sound asleep ball boys was pathetic Lastly (nearly end of rant ) when Williams let a ball run into touch in front of the North Stand but near the corner flag, near the end, he was about 8 yards away but instead of rushing to return it to Davies, he turned around and strolled away, making Davies having to run a fair way to recover the ball and take the free kick. These may seem daft actions to criticise, but we were chasing a win and these wasted seconds could have been vital. I hope Daniel made that clear in the after match inquest!! I'm beginning to think we might have a problem in this position
Yes he was. I sit on the half way line of the ESL so got a close view of that little incident. A less wimpish referee would have yellow carded him for that, apart from the fact that he was wasting our time. Ball boys - situation normal. I was hoping with our change of management that they would have jumped on this problem this season, but it's still the same. There was the usual gaggle of boys sitting together in the North stand, thus taking an age to get the ball back. There was an instance towards the end of the match where their keeper was allowed to waste some time getting the ball back from near the corner flag. A ball boy was sat motionless not ten feet away from the ball, in the Ponty/West Stand corner. Perhaps he hadn't looked up from his phone to see the ball sitting there against the wall. This is one of the most unprofessional things about our club at the moment. When we are winning no one cares how long they take, but it's not right is it?
That's an whole other rant.....Three of them sat next to each other to cover probably close to 5000 north stand seats and trying to decide who should go fetch when necessary. Should make them sit more spread out.
Really? Just look at the vast sea of empty seats for the little clutch of lads, usually with their feet hanging over the seats in front. Having a good laugh probably, or playing on their phones. Doing THEIR JOB they most certainly aren't!
May I give a particular mention to the ball boy at the cornet of the Pony End and the West Stand. In the closing minutes the ball was about 10 yards from him after a goal kick was awarded. He did not move and waited for their goalkeeper to stroll over and pick it up. I only saw this young man retrieve the ball once all game he was clearly not interested in doing his role or motivated to provide any sort of assistance to his team. I also saw one on a mobile phone. This is not a new phenomenon. Who is in charge of them and why do they allow the ball boys to do such a poor job.
I've been commenting on the ball boys for about 5 years now, it doesn't seem like it's going to change any time soon.
I don’t mind a bit of passion, even if it’s misplaced. Better than indifference. Agree with the ball boys. They need to spread out and look bothered.
On the Pinillos thing I have to say I've not been over impressed from what I've seen. However, I watched the Bradford match in full on ifollow after reading on here he'd been roasted second half. That certainly wasn't my impression. The lad beat him comprehensively once and a second time with the help of a lucky rebound. As I say, I'm not his biggest fan at the moment but there's a danger minds have been made up and he's marked out as this year's whipping boy.
Really annoys me that nobody (in any power) at the club seems to dare about the problem either. It shows a complacency running right through the club and a defeated attitude
You know how the first team players went on the military style training course once during pre season? We need to send the ball boys on one of these:
Can’t say I noticed that but there was no urgency at all yesterday and I hope it’s not something they’ve been told to do. Mowatt walking to take corners wa ridiculous
The ball boys always look totally uninterested to me, not even watching the game half the time never mind engaging with what is going on. One incident in the first half yesterday, the lad in front of the West Stand hadn't even noticed the ball a few yards away from him and had to be shouted to get up and give it back. Most slowly amble across to retrieve balls with a strange half-arsed, head down, self-conscious shuffle. If these are Academy lads you'd hope they'd be more interested. I'd have kids from the crowd doing it personally. Re Pinillos, yeah it appeared petulant but I kind of understood as I was just as frustrated. I don't mind seeing players visibly frustrated sometimes as it shows they care.
